<Start><message><tools><options> set up new account. Set up your gmail account and fill in the information.

Access your gmail account on the PC and make sure you have the settings so that it will push. And, that's really all there is to it. Send a few test messages and make sure wireless sync is on, and it should work.

If you are truely using Outlook (meaning the Outlook folder) for gmail then you have to set up the server information on your verizon (assuming you have verizon) wireless sync account. If you go that route, then email from your ISP and gmail will all go to the Outlook folder.

I found it easier to simply set up a new account, outside of the Outlook folder. I named mine gmail. That way you don't have to set it up on the verizon wireless sync account.

...so do you have a separate account showing up on your TREO, named gmail or something like that?

Default Here's what you need

First, don't use push unless you are in an EV-DO area. Reason being, data is constantly being transmitted and unless you are in an EV-DO area you won't be able to receive phone calls while data is being passed.

Next, here are the steps to set up email:

1. Go into "messaging"
2. Then, Menu, Tools, New Account...
3. Put in your email address (ex. name@gmail.com), outlook will attempt to set up port configs but usually doesn't do it correctly.
4. Your user name is ex. name@gmail.com, not just the name before the @
5. I forget the next steps in their entirety but you have to configure the incoming mail and outgoing mail like so, Incoming: pop.gmail.com:995 Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com:465
and they both use SSL authentication
6. After you type those in click the options button and set the time interval to check for email. Once again, if you are not in an EV-DO area I wouldn't set this to anything but the next part is important, click next and then you can change the settings for viewing older mail. Now, you have to check the Requires SSL connection box, if you don't it won't work correctly

Try that and let me know how it works!

Default Try This

All of those steps should be done on the phone itself. Messaging brings you into the phone email client, outlook. From there, follow the steps provided. If you are in an EV-DO area you can use "push" with no problem. What city are you in?

Default Gmail - Pull not Push

I do not use push email for Gmail on my Treo 700W. I use Internet Explorer and just go to www.gmail.com. The Gmail site seems to be smart enough to know when I am on a mobile device and provides screens that fit the Treo 700W.

One important thing, if you use this method, you may want to manually disconnect from the broadband access.

This works for me, your needs may be different.

I am in Alpine, NJ. I have it setup to 'push' now I believe.. as Verizon walked me thru it and recommended thats how I do it. It is working fine as of now, but like you said, I don't want to be missing calls. Is there any way I can verify if I am in an area where the 'push' will be hurting me? Because I am scared I will mess something up by changing it.

Many many thanks.
