Default GPS Navigation Software for the 700w

I notice that there is a new GPS receiver for the 700w, the Globalsat Compact SD502 GPS for Treo 700w. In checking on software however I see that a number of the GPS navigation packages specifically say they either don't yet support Windows Mobile 5 or the 700w. Has anyone found a GPS software package that works well with the 700w.

Thanks,
Mike

Is no one out there using the Treo 700w with a GPS enabled mapping program? I assume there must be something available. If not the new Globalsat Compact SD502 GPS that is now available won't be selling very well.

How about the Garmin GPS 10? I haven't used it, but I've used MANY Garmin products over the years. I bet it's nice.

Default Tom Tom

I have seen Tom Tom advertised for the Treo 700w, it uses the expansion slot in the top of the phone. Now, ask me where I saw it. It was about $250.00 but for the life of me, I can't find it again. Some help I am, eh?

Folks,

I have been using Pharos' product for several years. On a lark, I downloaded the latest version (no trial, I have a license) to my Treo, and los and behold, the screen resized to the smaller footprint. I contacted Pharos and asked them about connectivity to the Treo, and they told me that my old wired GPS could not adapt to it, and recommended a BT receiver. I ordered one, and it connected flawlessly on the first try, and has been working well since.

As a Pharos fan, I'm used to the UI, and the maps scale well to our screen size.

So , I say to this solution for our Treo (whatever that's worth).

Did you get the Pharos PT 200 with the Ostia software? Do they provide convenient updates to the Ostia software - both bug fixes and street changes? If so where do you download them from? I assume they have voice prompts and all the other feathers one would expect.

I've checked and Tom Tom doesn't seem to explicitly support the 700 W yet. That and Delorme are the only two I've had any experience with but I'm open to other products if they are reliable and effective.

Any suggestions one where to get the PT 200 would be appreciated. CompUSA carries it but they often aren't that cheap and I hate their mail in rebates.

Since I already had the SW, I bought the PT110, which is hardware only with the car charger. The PT200 I believe has both the hardware and software.

SW and map updates are downloadable from the website. It does have voice prompts, zooming down to 200 ft views, birds-eye and standard views, all the standard bells and whistles.

The best price I found for this kit was at TechOnWeb.

Thanks for the feedback. Two more questions. How good is the Pharos GPS reception? Can you place it on the dash or seat and have it pick up a signal or does it need an external antennae?

The second question is how far away can the Pharos GPS receiver be from the Treo 700w? In theory it can be 30 feet but what is your experience with a practical distance? Thanks.

I have it on my dash, appx 3 feet from my car holder for the Treo, and it works fine. Don't know about the seat, as Ive never tried that... As far as distance, my 700 can see it right now and I am about 20 feet from my truck in my home office!
