handsfree voice activation question

Hi i just got my 700w and I love it! but there is one thing that has been bothering me.

Im using the hs850 motorola bt headset and I cant get the voice activation to work..

with my old phone if you press the headset button once.. it asks.. who you want to call.

does treo 700 not support this (or do I need 3rd party software for this to work)?

any suggestions would be awesome,

The voice dialer (beefed up Voice Command from Microsoft I think) does NOT support voice dialing through a BT headset.

3rd part app would be the only way at this time, as far as I know.

Manual even says this...

I'm new to the Treo arena.....any suggestions of software that would work with the bluetooth voice command?

Im new to Treo 700 and this site but the Jabra BT250 works on my treo with voice. I assume what your talking about is "dial" or "call" feature using voice. Works great for me

I have the same headset too and the voice command feature does not work for me so I'm curious what you have done to get it working. Please let us know.....!

I'll try and explain what i did to get the voice working with my 700.

1. Go to settings and select Buttons.
2. I set the small side button (hold side) to program "voice".
a. select a button
b. assign a program
3. Go back to settings and select voice. There are options to enable different features.

So when I press and hold the side button i hear a tone and then a microphone appears in the top banner. Talk into the BT and say call "anyone in your contacts list". I say "call office voice mail" which is the way its stored in my contacts list. I have the voice setting to repeat the command and then i say correct or yes and it dials my voice mail at my office. It works great.

I have mine setup exactly like you but two things....!

1. When I activate voice command by holding down the side button when it comes on the headset is NOT active. The voice command lady's voice (if that's what it is) is NOT coming out of my headset but out of the phone. Additionally, when I say "call john smith" it's the phone that hears me NOT the headset (yet). Once the phone dials the number and the call gets connected then and only then does the headset pop alive and all is well.

2. The top button on the headset can be used to answer an inbound call however with my previous phone pressing this button once when not on a call would bring up the voice dialing feature. With the Treo 700w pressing this button when NOT on a call does nothing making the operation less than "handsfree" in my opinion. This is how many others describe how it works so I assume you are in the same boat.

Overall the combo of the two is still rather good but it could be better.

I think that what is happening is that the phone's microphone activates, rather than the BT headset. This mic, which is used for speakerphone, is sensitive enough to pick up your voice from a normal driving distance.

I agree skipster. Unfortunately the voice command that comes with the Treo DOES NOT support Blue Tooth Dialing or commands through the headset. The new Microsoft Voice Command v1.6 does say it now supports BT Voice dialing and commands. Although it also states that the audio is still heard from the phones speaker, Not to great of an idea if you wear your phone down on your hip.... not sure if it is worth th $39.99?
