You can get Treo650 for $200-250 at Verizon right now. Will Treo700w really cost up to $700? And why would it be more expensive with 2 yr contract? Isn't it usually cheaper with 2 yr contract than 1 yr contract?

It will most likely be in the 6-700 range when it releases only because VZW will have it exclusively, and the business customers that the 700w is pointed towards will not mind paying that much for an MS branded product.

Rumor is that Sprint has a 700p (palmOS) on coming out around the same time. I would guess that the price would be the same.

I hadn't heard that... I heard Sprint would get the 700w in May -- and that Cingular would get the 750 or whatever the next Palm upgrade is... around that timeframe.

    Reported here: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000950068893/

I also read the report and do not have that much confidence in it. My friends at BargainPDA had this to say about it: http://forum.bargainpda.com/showthread.php?t=10901

It should be noted, however, that Sagio is in fact Palm Inc's third largest single shareholder, holding over two and a half millon shares worth an estimated $70 million dollars. As such, they have a vested interest in what direction the stock moves. The company completely failed to mention this little fact in their analysis report. As of the time of this writing, PALM stock is up by $1.54 per share, which translates as $3.8 million dollars that Sagio didn't have before posting their "report."
    All interesting news aint it

That's not bad considering most do not pay retail. The unlocked GSM is still $599 - and that's after mark-downs.

I hope thats true, but that goes against the implied statement of it costing more than a Tre 650. I realize that "more" could be $50, but this is Verizon they don't do anything on the cheap end when it comes to pricing on phones. If $600 is full retail, then I would expect $499 for 1YR and $549 for 2YR they won't be motivated to cut the pricing much, but thats a big if.

I'm the kind of hardware user thats always experimenting with software. I'm constantly in the search for the next big thing or testing new updates or just plain experementing. I have fun doing it. Obviously space is finite (but I do have a 2 GB Card!) so what goes in, sometimes goes out... otherwise stays for a while, while the search for something better continues...

Palm OS is great handling this. Some things give a little more trouble removing but it's pretty straightforward and rarely does something that stays behind cause serious problems. Palm OS is simple and intuitive to use and has only gotten more so. I've been using Palm OS since the original Palm Pilot in 1996 on and off, but always come back to it.

I've passed through a Symbian phase having a P800 and a P900 SE. That was pretty user unfriendly too but youre asking me about Win Mobile...

I had and used every day for about 6 months a Qtek S100 Win Mobile device. It was truly the worst experience as far as OS's go. I had to at least perform a soft reset once per day and a hard reset once per week or close. It got to the point where I removed EVERYTHING from it and kept it 100% stock using only original components (and a WiFi card which is the ONLY thing I miss on my Treo). Along the day I could tell the interface would become slower as the hours passed. After a nights sleep the next morning it would more likely than not be unbearably slow. I had tons of "could not complete because of unknown error". It really was becoming a pita plus the fact that I like to try new stuff and uninstalling software off the Win Mobile is usually a nightmare cause theres a trail of 100's of files (depending on the software) spewed all over the device... I even gave up on the SD card because most of the time it gave me errors running stuff off of it. I finally gave up and sold it for 1/4 the price of what I bought it for and threw in more than 150 EUR in accessories thats how pissed off I was.

I'm not mentioning sync issues cause I had few or none with Missing Sync software although some are to be expected with a Win Mobile device on a Mac. I'm really just talking about the Win Mobile platform itself.

Coming back to palm, again, was the best thing I could have done. I've now tried, and gave a fair chance, the 3 main platforms for "smart phones": Symbian, Win and Palm. Palm is like coming home. I compare palm's to macs and Win Mobile to, well... Windows. Yes I've always been a mac user, but I have used PC's extensively... just not very happy about it.

I'm not trying to convince anybody of anything!! Just expressing my opinion and experience, please don't interpert me wrongly! :-)
