How to turn off mandatory password entry

I had to do a hard-reset on my 700w today and now I'm forced to enter a password every time I pick up the device. I looked in the setting area and found the password section but the checkbox that would let me turn off the feature is greyed out so I cant turn it off. Any ideas...?

Don't know if this helps - cause you saying Mandatory...
Anyway, just checked my 700 -
settings
Personal
Password
Enter Passord - Assuming you have it
Remove check box from screen.

This is all I see on mine. No shaded boxes.

You're in the right place but in my case I need to enter a password to get there AND the checkbox is both already checked and is greyed out so I can't un-check it.

Two things come to mind here. One is your Treo 700w a corp owned device that your IT dept set up for you? If so you could be out of luck. If its not, then something is wrong and a hard reset may be in order.
