Default I finally decided to get a TreoWX, what should I do first?

I am new to Treos and I want to know what I hsould do first when I get my new phone.
I would like to thread my SMS, use AIM, and Youtube.
What do I need to make these things possible.

A lot of it depends on who your service provider is. You Tube is a bit hinky with the Internet Explorer Mobile. AIM you will have to get a third party software for. You may want to use your favorite search engine to find that out.

Keep your fingers crossed and be patient. These devices are very complex and sometimes very frustrating. I'm on my 3rd 700WX in less than a month and finally this one has had 2 complete days with no glitches. Also, I do not download any 3rd party software because I believe this is what causes most issues with these devices. My carrier is Verizon who I cannot say enough good things about regarding customer service. Like all customer service departments they have some poorly trained representatives but I've never been on hold for more than 30 seconds before reaching a live person.

On the software side, make sure you use the latest releases and do not hesitate to contact the developer if there is a problem. There is frankly no reason not to place third party software on the device.

First thing's first... install Sprite backup that should have come on the cd with the phone, and USE IT! Make backups often just in case you brick (totally fry) your device doing any kind of updates or installations. I also bought the Palm cradle right away, makes syncing with my pc and recharging very easy.

Other than that the best thing I've found is to search around these forums to learn all the cool things you can do with it, and to find fixes and what not for things that go wrong. Forums are really the best resources for these things. Look at the software areas for the 3rd party apps you can download. Most of them either come with free trials, allow you to return within 30 days for money back, or are totally free to begin with.

The first thing I got was Google maps, followed by Resco Explorer to hack my registry to allow bigger MMS messages. My latest installs have been SPB Shell, SPB Weather, and SPB Diary... totally changed the way my phone looks and I love having the Diary and the Weather right on my today screen.

EDIT: You'll also need an SD storage card, you can get them for pretty cheap for a gig or two. Install all your stuff on that.
