I own the Treo 700...worth the upgrade?
Amazing device but not worth the upgrade from the 650 unless you have too much money. If so, then go for it. =) Still needs some tweaking but a very powerful, impressive device. I know there are tons of reviews popping up but if anybody has any questions I'll be more than happy to answer them.
Highlight thus far: someone called me while i was on the phone, i hit ignore with text and it automatically sent a text message to the person i ignored saying "sorry, on the phone...will call you soon." I then googled a movie time from the today screen WHILE on the phone instantly using verizon's EV-DO. All with one hand. Amazing.
Oh, the one thing that is kinda tickin me off is that all these reviewers are knocking on the 700's 240x240 screen vs. the 650's 320x320. Yes, the 650 is a tad sharper. A TAD. Once you throw the brightness up and enable clear type on the 700, the screen looks pretty darn good and comparable if you ask me.
In my mind, if you own a PC, use Outlook, and live in a Verizon EV-DO area, there is no reason whatsoever to buy the 650.

I think it's noticeable depending on the content. The Today screen, web browsing and messaging is great. If you compare side to side, the difference while viewing pictures is noticable. I watched some streaming Windows Mobile Video last night --- on one hand I was impressed with the streaming (EV-DO), but it did make me long for the sharpness of the 650. I didn't like the use of real estate while in Windows Media Player.
The unit is nice though. It's a much different experience from the Palm OS. The hardware itself is giving me a bit of a comfort zone as I get used to the Windows Mobile OS.
Amazing device but not worth the upgrade from the 650 unless you have too much money.
Agreed. If you own a 650 and have the upgrade bug, I'd checkout the 700w at a local Verizon store -- my thought is that tried and true Palm OS users who own the 650 will stick with the next Palm OS based Treo -- 700p, 750p.. whatever it ends being called.

If you're looking more on the multimedia side of things, then 650 might be the better option. If your usage is more internet, then definitely the 700w is the way to go. Makes you wonder why they left EV-DO out of the 650. Perhaps, they purposely left it out to give the 700w a clear advantage. And yes, EV-DO is a clear advantage to the 700w.

points well taken...for pure multimedia the 650 is a tad stronger but it is somewhat crippled due to its slow OTA transfer speeds. I love streaming music videos to my 700w which I could never do on the 650. Of course if the videos ever got to the 650 they would look better. =)
I have used the 650 and i liked it...amazing device...but it felt lacking in some departments, mostly with how it tied into outlook, it's lack of 3G/EV DO, and the random crashes/reboots.
have you tried the 700 with full brightness and cleartype? makes a big difference (in my eyes).
just curious, but besides the better screen, what makes the 650 a better multimedia option?

These are my early observations watching Windows Mobile videos and viewing a few photos. I've used my 650 to watch DVD movies and was amazed. I'd like to see what they look like on the 700w.

Just finally getting a chance to play with it and will try that.
For most usage, I'm pleased with the screen. I expected the worst when hearing how terrible it was going to be on varioius outlets. That's just not the case.

A lot of us have significant investments in Palm OS applications and utilities. That's a big factor as well.

that's a big point. I really think people should separate the upgrade question from is the 700 a worthy device question.
upgrade...i'd say no.
Worthy device...i'd say heck yeah.
Which is better? You summed it up...if you need internet then you have no choice but the 700. If you use a mac, prefer the crisp screen and palm interface then the 650 is your bag.
how do you like the camera on the 700? i've been fairly impressed.
Oh lastly, the storage on the 700 is awesome.

does anybody know where i can get software for the phone? can i purchase windows mobile 5 software or does it have be be specifically for the 700 since it has a square screen?
sorry for all the questions.just have to make sure before buying software.
thanks.

you can do a search for windows mobile 5 software but there aren't too many that are specifically made for the treo 700 (240x240). give it another month or so.
I have downloaded a few of my favorite programs and they work fine.
how is the email treating you on the treo? mine doesn't like to automatically download my hotmail.
