Default Insensitive Space Bar and No Colon on Treo 700w

Is there a way to reduce the pressure needed to cause the space-bar to make a space? The space bar on my Treo 700w requires more pressure to make a space that the letter-keys require to make a letter. The effect is to disrupt the rhythm of my typing and to cause many words to run together. Then I have to back up and correct. I had no such problem on my old Treo 650.

Also, what happened to the colon-key? I use a colon frequently. Where is it? Thanks for any help.

Default Found colon key; Experimenting with Space Bar

I am answering one of my own questions, after having read a comment somwhere. The colon is found by pressing "Alt" and then selecting the colon key. Cumbersome, but at least it can be typed.

I'm experimenting with the space bar and believe the left end may trigger more quickly than the right end of the bar. This is inconvenient for me, as I type it with my right thumb. I may have to retrain myself.

To get a colon, hit Alt, and you'll access an on-screen menu of special characters. You then scroll down the list to the colon, and hit enter.

Not sure how/if you can adjust the tension on the space bar.
