    Default Music files - 3 questions

    Hello;

    I'm using treo 700wx as an mp3 player (one of the reasons I 've got this phone) and have couple of annoing issues that might be the result of my lack of knowledge. Maybe this forum can offer some answers:

    1. long mp3 file names are garbled into random file names like O4C7N6~0 on transfer. Is there a limit to a file name length?

    2. The only way I can transfer files to storage card is via synch or when phone appears as mobile device in XP. When I try to drop files on SD card using usb I'm loosing format, card is ureadable. Is the synch and XP explorer the only way to copy files ?

    3. related to the above, when copying files via XP mobile device the copy speed is very slow, it is not USB2. I do not have numbers ready, but it feels like USB1. What is the speed of the synch connection ?

    Thanks;

    George

    Question Have you tried emailing the files to your phone?

    This won't resolve all of your concerns. I'll give it a try and let you know.

    I suggest getting a Card reader. That is what I use sometimes and it works just fine. I think I've been able to drag-and-drop onto my storage card while connected via USB but I usually use the Card reader as it is a little faster when I do mass file copying.

    My wife's laptop is a USB2 device but my laptop is older and only runs at USB1 speed so my ActiveSync and Card reader speed to my laptop is the same (USB1) and I only use the card reader on my wife's laptop as I haven't installed ActiveSync to it yet (actually - I'm not allowed to touch it really).

    I'm using an usb card reader and after copying the files the card is unredable, I have to reformat to FAT32. I have to admitt that I use Linux when copying mp3 files via card reader, but that did not create any issues with other devices (Nikon camera and Samsung mp3 player). I will try card reader in XP to see what happens, both format and speed wise.

    Thanks for answers, I will post my results.

    Default it's the card reader

    I have tried in XP and the problem persisted.

    It looks like the source of my problems was usb card reader from byttec (multiformat). I have tried another card reader (no name, multiformat, 30 $CAD) and it works like a charm in Linux, XP in vmware, standalone XP etc.

    Never had something like that before, card reader was either defective or I did not install special drivers for it ( which I refuse to do anyway).

    I am having the problem of: when I put music on my SD card, I can load the music on my pTunes once. Then when I go back to find the music later it is no longer listed on my card... any thoughts?
