New to TREO 700w
Hi,
I'm new here, and somewhat technologically challenged:redface:
I recently purchased the 700w, 'cause I thought it was time to get something state of the art
. I think the email set-up is a bit over my head.
Here's what I'm trying to do:
Note: I do NOT want to synch the 700w to my PC.
1. Make the outlook on 700w receive and send email messages. I've set up an @hotmail.com free account, but the MSN site says that with the free account, they don't allow messages to be sent to outlook. I'd have to become a subscriber for that. So, the question is what type of email account can I use? Must I use the email from my PC ISP provider, which is comcast?
2. Also, I've set up an msn messenger account. I know this may sound silly, but exactly what am I supposed to do with that?
3. Lastly, in 'Today', 'Messaging', 'Menu', 'Switch Accounts', there's an option called 'MMS'. What is 'MMS'?...is this the mobile messaging service to be used with msn messenger?
Thanks for you help and patience!

Have you tried PocketMSN which is installed on the 700w? Click on the Windows Button > Programs > Pocket MSN. From there, you can set up your Hotmail account and login to MSN Messenger.

Sign-in using your account and you can chat with friends via Instant Message from anywhere with your 700w.

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service. You can send pictures and other multimedia to other cellphone/smartphone owners who have phones that support MMS. Think a multimedia version of SMS.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris!
Wow...I went to PocketMSN and did as you suggested. Also, I sent a few test e-mails. OMG - it works! I noticed though that even when I hit 'send', I had to go to the menu and hit 'send/receive' to initiate the function - it works though.
Regarding msn messanger and MMS - I suppose I'll need to play around with those to test it out. For MMS, what's the benefit of using that versus sending an attachment in an email?
So, if I understand things correctly there are several ways to communicate aside from making a phone call...
1. Text messaging
2. email
3. msn messenger
4. MMS/SMS
...is that correct?

Some of your friends don't have a Treo and will have to wait until they get home to their PC/Mac to get your attachment.

Text Messaging (SMS)/MMS
Instant Messaging (MSN Messenger)
Email
Web
and oh yeah the traditional phone call!
