Default New Treo 700 issues

I've just got a new treo 700w. There are two bugs bothers me tremendously. One is the active sync. I was able to sync everything except the contact and email. I've read a few threads and did try hard reset by unplugging the battery and reconnect. It still won't work.

The other is the Internet Explorer. I kept getting a message saying "Cannot Connect: The current connection cannot be used for your request..." I did go to the setting/system/memory to delete the IE connection. It still doing it.

Someone can help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm very surprised by your findings. Also to do a hard reset you must hold the red button while inserting a pin or stylus in the reset button underneath the battery cover, basically what you did is a soft reset by removing the battery and replacing it.

First uninstall Active sync on your PC, reboot and reinstall ActiveSync. Before attaching your 700w to the sync cord or cradle, Go under TOOLS in ActiveSync and make your settings are correct for what you want to sync, then after that reattach the sync cable or your cradle and then sync. And it will walk you through the rest of the process of retrieving your contacts and whatever else you wanted to sync.

And with IE not connecting, you need to clear the memory by holding down the OK button for 5 seconds. If that do not work, do a soft reset.

By having a multitasking operating system, Microsoft Mobile 5, we forget that we have minimized the programs that we opened and have not exited the program. By poor design of the programmer, some choose not to add a simple exit button to give back the memory that it has taken. Remember in previous TREOS all you could have open at one time is (2) a MP3 player and (1) other program but with TREO 700w we have gotten spoiled already opening many programs at a time, therefore some will say that the TREO 700w has poor memory management but actually all we need to do is manage our memory ourselves.

Thanks very much, Mr. Jerome.

I've tried what you suggested. It still has problems. Only Contacts won't sync to the Treo 700w. My contacts were downloaded from Yahoo Address book, saved in a file folder in my PC, and imported to the Outlook. I could see the Contacts on Outlook OK. Mail, calendar, etc are all sync'ed OK. I don't know why only Contacts won't.

On the IE, I did remove the running programs, soft reset the Treo. It still doing it. I find the connection that uses my cell phone number OK, but the password kept changing from vzw to *********. That's why I keep getting that "Can not connect..." message.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

When I hold down the OK for 5 sec it just opens the memory screen. I then have to select stop all. Is that the way is supose to work or should it automaticly stop all?

Default Similiar Issue

I solved my contact/email issue simply by uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook 2002. I further went beyond this and went into the registry and found all entries of Outlook and deleted it. After that, I did a clean install of Outlook. Works like a charm now.

Thanks Monie to share your experience.

The IE issue was solved. I didn't put the full address of the user.

The Contacts sync issue still remain. I had Palm's tech support helped last night. She couldn't get it working either. Your approach to uninstall and reinstall Outlook is very interesting. Mine is Office Pro 2003. I hate to uninstall the whole thing since there're many settings. Am I able to only uninstrall Outlook? Can you be more specific of what you cleaned up on the outlook files?

Thanks again for your sharing.

What I did was this:

1) Goto Control Panel
2) Add/Remove Programs
3) Find Office 2003 Professional
4) Select "Change"
5) When the Setup menu appears, make sure to choose "Add or Remove Features"
6) De-select Outlook from the choices
7) Choose "Update"
8) Setup will then uninstall Outlook 2003 from your system
9) After setup, goto Run, and type in "regedit"
10) Goto Edit, then choose "Find"
11) Search for all strings relating to "outlook" (make sure Values, Keys, Data are checked) and delete the necessary strings (no harm will come to your computer because you already removed outlook; we're just removing all traces of it)
12) You can ignore anything related to Outlook Express if it's installed on your machine
13) Close everything and re-install Outlook 2002 (the cd that came w/ your Treo 700w) ; I wouldn't recommend installing Outlook 2003 again, but if you want to, you can still try (I'd much rather install something that came w/ the device); besides as far as I know, there's not much difference between 2002 and 2003 versions
14) Restart your computer
15) Try syncing again, and make sure you turn off your firewalls (I have Windows XP's firewall turned off, as well as my ZoneAlarm)

Any more questions, just ask the forum members =D

Thank you so much Monie.

This afternoon, I spent another 3 hours with a tech support from Palm and finally solve the Contacts sync issue. It's a little weird. But it looks like this: We export the Contacts from Outlook of Microsoft Exchange server and import to a new Outlook profile with POP3. From there, it still didn't work. The tricky part was, after the active sync, the Contact in the Treo became unchecked and that in the PC became disappeared. Accidentally, we found that if we disconnect the Treo from PC, then reconnect again. Go to the Active sync in PC option and check the Contacts again. Then do another sync. It started to work that way. Weird, but it works for now. I definitely want to try your approach and clean up my Outlook again. That seems to be the right way. But I have that Microsoft Exchange server that requires VPN to connect. That makes it more complicated.

Best Regards

Do you have a firewall running on your computer? If so and if you have not already configured it per MS directions this could be a part but not the only issue. Check out this link.

On the side (or scroll down) MS has the following liks:

Sygate Personal Firewall

Default Outlook Contacts will Sync up

Thanks MCT for spending the time with Tech Support and accidentally discovering the solution. I had the exact same problem and after reading this thread, did what you did and it worked! Amazing!

1. Disconnected the Treo from PC
2. Disabled Norton Firewall
3. Reconnected again.
4. Go to Active sync in PC option and check the Contacts again (which now showed up)
5. Performed another sync. And now works like a charm.
