Default New User and got some ?

New user to the treo and this forum. Ive never had real ppc before, Ive had the I930 and also all the sidekicks but now Im stepping my phone game up. To me it seems that the teo 700 wx combines the sidekick and 930 plus more. Enough about that on to some ?s

1. I wanna know I do I get my emails sent right to the device, like I have accounts on yahoo and aol. How do I get those email sent right to the device instead of logging on to the sites.

2. Is it true you can only copy an paste when tranfering files from computer to device or sd card.

3. I was using a 2g Sandisk card for my 930 is that cool for the treo beacuse Im going to pick up one today.

4. Can the movies be any size from the windows media player on your computer to the device.

5. What about the video ringtones have you done this, does it work.

6. Is it possible to put my sprint sim card in to my 930 and transfer my contacts to it with out causing any problems I figure since it is nextel and they go through sprint. I use to do it with my boost mobile sim card with out a problem.

7. This will be the last one I know Im going to want to know more but cant think of them right now. Fill me on some of the lingo like what does some of these things mean. Like

a. ppc = pocket pc
b. push email = ?

Im not that familiar with the smartphone lingo fill me on some other terms.

thanxx

Have patience. There are some good people using this board but aren't always logged in. Remember PDA's are for working people and they might not be watching. I have a 700W and am new to it so I don't have your answeres but, hang in.

First, I would start by asking clear and concise questions. I don't have time or the patience to decipher your run on sentences. I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, just giving you a tip.

Second, this forum does have a FAQ. Why would anyone spend the time to reply and state the obvious?

To try an answer some of your questions:
1. I wanna know I do I get my emails sent right to the device, like I have accounts on yahoo and aol. How do I get those email sent right to the device instead of logging on to the sites.

>>>Go to AOL.com and Yahoo.com and look in their help sections for setting up POP3 mail access.

2. Is it true you can only copy an paste when tranfering files from computer to device or sd card.

>>> Honestly, I don't even know where to start with this one. Needs some clarification.

3. I was using a 2g Sandisk card for my 930 is that cool for the treo beacuse Im going to pick up one today.

>>> Is your 2g Sandisk an SD card? If so, the Treo has an SD slot.

4. Can the movies be any size from the windows media player on your computer to the device.

>>> By size, do you mean resolution (i.e. 640x480) or size in storage space? If the former, I have found that various resolutions perform in varying ways on my Treo. I have not actually gone through each resolution to determine how it plays on the Treo however.

If the latter, you're only restriction is the size of storage attached the Treo.

5. What about the video ringtones have you done this, does it work.

>>> I've never heard of video ringtones. What does that mean? A picture pops up when someone calls?

6. Is it possible to put my sprint sim card in to my 930 and transfer my contacts to it with out causing any problems I figure since it is nextel and they go through sprint. I use to do it with my boost mobile sim card with out a problem.

>>> Your best bet is to go to the Sprint store to ask...besides, this is a 700w/700wx forum.

7. This will be the last one I know Im going to want to know more but cant think of them right now. Fill me on some of the lingo like what does some of these things mean. Like

a. ppc = pocket pc

>>> Name for the Microsoft mobile operating system before Windows Mobile 5 arrived. (I think)

b. push email = ?

>>> Setting up email so that it gets pushed to the mobile device by an Exchange server (like how a BlackBerry works) vs. requiring the phone to constantly dial up and pull email to the device.

Im not that familiar with the smartphone lingo fill me on some other terms.

>>> Like what?

Seriously, though, how old are you? I'm not trying to belittle you, but, doesn't anyone teach proper grammar in school any more? How can you go through life communicating like that and expect to ever get the answer you're looking for?

WOW!! Man I'm sorry I didn't realize what I was doing. I'm a part of so many forums most, in which do not always use proper spelling so everyone sort of gets use to misspelling, and respelling words the way they want them. It was late so I just kept typing without relizing that I was making so many misstakes and errors. I am so glad you said something, at first I was a little offended, but you were right. Although spelling has nothing to do with verbal communication, so I do pretty well in getting questions answered throughout life. As far as the questions that you did not understand.

2. What I was trying to say here is that can you drag your files from your computer to your device, or is copying and pasting the only way.

5. In the manual it says that you can set up the videos you've saved to your phone as a video ringtone. It says something about that on a couple of sites that reviewed the phone aswell. Its pretty much the same way you would set up music files as ringtones, I was asking if anyone had done this.

Thats the only two you could not give answers for, but as far as me asking for some other terms for smartphone language I'm not sure if you didn't like that way I had asked that question or what? I was just trying to sound funny if you will, sort of how some people are with slang. Again I apologize for my errors in my post and thank you for your help my questions and any future questions.

I am out of my league here. (how did I get in this forum section)

Video ringtones sound really neat but I have never heard of them. Is there directions in your manual to set them up? Palm site? or FAQ here at ET?

I myself am pretty new to this whole Treo thing. But I did manage to figure out how to use the video ringtones.

Go into settings, and go into sounds. Once there, on the bottom of the screen you'll see three tabs. Go to manage, and you'll have your list of ringtones. Then go into the menu (bottom right corner), and click add. Then simply find the video clip on your treo and add it to the list. Then go to the notification tab and select the event you want to have the video ringtone.

Cheers.

Yeah that's how you do it, I just never had the time to set it up. I was asking anyone if they had done it, and how does it look. Also I don't know about you guys but I have the 436 page manual that I downloaded from the web.

Yes you can... choose explore from the ActiveSync window and drag the file to the directory on the phone you want...

I believe this is now answered...
