I ran the update, it updated successfully. However, now I don't get service. Even when I turn the phone on. No, I can't dial *228. WTF?
One issue I did have was I moved the updater window to the bottom of the screen, and it kind of froze there, but the 700w itself told me the update succeeded. I verified that in "About."
Socially, I believe my weekend may be kind of shot. Oh well, I should work anyway. Verizon is sending a replacement that will arrive Monday. I casually asked if it would be a 700wx instead of a 700w, and they said it might be as the 700w was discontinued a while ago.
I do have insurance on my phone. Now if you're sneaky and devious, you could call support and tell them the upgrade failed. (make sure to turn your radio off, so they can't confirm) then once you get the new model, run the update. Then send back the updated "broken" unit.
From a moral standpoint, I only recommend this if you have insurance and a major grudge against Verizon. I'm not overjoyed with them, but their customer support is pretty good. I'm switching to a GSM carrier when my contract runs out, but if a Verizon truck ran over your dog, by all means take my advice! |
