newbie here, need help

First Palm and first smartphone so basically, I know nothing about these devices. Can someone tell me how I go about putting and running other programs on my phone? (ptravel alarm for example). I did install the activesync software that came with the phone on my home computer. Can anyone recommend some must have software I should have on my 700wx? I basically use it for email, contacts and appointments.
