For anyone who cares to do this....
I use Telus, and use the pay per use option. I am at home and have wi-fi, and have wi-fi almost everywhere I normally go, so I don't care to pay data charges. On the PPU plan, they charge you $30 for the first 1mb of data you transfer, so they really discourage data use on this plan.
I went in to Settings>Connections>Connections and went to manage existing connection and I removed my username and password so my phone cannot connect to the network for data over the cellular line. I have started up MSN explorer and hotmail and it can't connect and there are no data charges on my account after several days.
I also have been using a "non-Palm" Wi-Fi card ($70 Can) and it works fine, and without data charges. I have checked email, browsed webpages, and sent messages with messenger.
