Open Ports - Not what I expected

OK, can someone from Microsoft, or Palm possibly clarify exactly how Direct Push is working? After attending a Microsoft TS2 event, they explained it that the Treo is maintaining a "heartbeat" with the Exchange Server to tell it where it is. Then, when the Exchange Server needs to tell the Treo to sync, it would make an HTTPS call to it, and it would sync, and we'd all be happy.

Now, found my phone IP address, and I did a port scan on 0-20480. Here's what was open:
25 (SMTP)
110 (POP)

Uhhh, this totally is not what I expected.

Any thoughts? Perhaps the messages are coming in via SMTP... If that's the case, they're not secure...
