This is a discussion on Other carriers within the Treo Smartphones forums; I have seen that Verison will have the new Treo in early 2006. What is up with other companies?...

It has always been done. Both the Treo 600 and 650 came out on Sprint first and then the rest of the carriers eventually followed. The carriers typically require exclusive rights for some time period and the same is the case with the new Treo and Verizon. My assumption is that the new Treo is first coming to Verizon because they have the best EVDO network. The Treo 650 already supports all the other cellular data networks.

That's gotta be the reason. Verizon has typically been last to the party. According to the press conference, they've been working on this for "a while". The gentleman from Verizon seemed to be genuinely excited about the Windows Mobile Treo. Granted, his job is to market the product, but personally I don't mind hearing "broadband speed.... lightning fast" when referring to internet access from a Treo. Now, I can get my spam twice as fast while on the road.

I'm also guessing that Verizon probably:
    • has a good relationship with Micro$oft
    • they have established relationships with major/large corporations who might adopt the Treo with Windows Mobile

The Sprint exclusivity piece of the Treo deal with Palm only included PalmOS models. Verizon apparently asked about this point and pushed hard with MS and Palm to make friendly for a model that will basically make VZW a huge seller to corporate and gov't markets in the US. Expect to see this on VZW only until May-ish when it will be announced for the other carriers.

I thnk that if the next PalmOS Treo is better, Sprint may pass on this one and just keep the PalmOS one for now.

I hope you're right, but I still think M$oft will have a Category 6 hurricane if Palm releases a technically superior Palm OS Treo. Besides, what can Frankengarnet do that WM5 can't?

    Default Which provider is best?

I'm about to invest in a Treo 650 but which provider is best!? I'm in the military and have a busy civilian life as well. Any suggestions would be great!

    Favorite who else

Sprint will offer 700 3rd quarter 06. Sprint would also cut your service off even if you owed only 20 cent.

    Question And the GSM carriers???

We've seen and heard that Sprint and Verizon are getting the Treo 700 but what about the 2 big GSM carriers Cingular and T-Mobile.

Personally I'd hook sign up with T-Mobile but can thier network even support the laundry list of this machine's features. I don't think they even support the 650 (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm traveling I need a phone that does what I need and can be used anywhere hence the plus of GSM. And we're stuck with Sprint and Vzw for now that means me and others like me gotta wait till mid to late '06 to get our next phones.
