Smile Palm Gps Navigator With Tom Tom 6 For 700wx

First let me say that I AM LOVING THIS SYSTEM. After being shafted (w/o any grease) by Comp USA with their Pharos GPS system (DONT BUY IT)... let me say that Palm has given me a breath of fresh air.

I brought the Palm GPS Navigator with TOM TOM 6 right here on the "Everything Treo Store" (Scroll Up). I got it shipped overnight and installed it in my police car. I must say that besides the wires.. this system works perfectly. It is accurate, speedy and helpful. Even running blue lights and sirens at high speeds, it is accurate. I know this because during a vehicle pursuit.. It told me what street / intersection was coming up before me or the suspect could see it.

It came with a form fitted mount, which secures my 700wx without any play in the sides. The suction cup mounts to my dash without problems and GPS reciever is marvalous (mind that you get some 2-way velcro to secure it to your dash). I must say that it was money well spent. It is even compatible with my wives 700p.

The package comes with a 1GB SD card that contains the maps and software, however I was able to put the software and maps on my 4 GB SD card without a problem (So I dont have to switch SD cards between TOM TOM and my MP3 music). The voice prompts are clear and loud enough to hear, minue a loud stereo.

I know I am rambling on, but if you are a TREO NUT like me...I would suggest to anyone looking into a GPS unit for their vehicle and has a Treo 700wx or 700p to jump on it. Can't beat the price.

The thing I can't resolve is, that often the price is similar for the gps add-on to use with my Treo than the price for all-in-one gps unit. So I keep thinking, why use the Treo's small screen when, for the same price, I can get a unit with a bigger screen. And I can use the phone and GPS at the same time this way. Any thoughts on this?

I agree about using the phone and gps....my brother in law got a gps and it does everything. Bluetooths your phone to a handsfree setup, plays mp3s and movies downloaded to it. Really neat gps features too. Will find restaurants for you like google maps and gives you detailed directions on screen and clear audio too. It was around $500.00 but it is like having a laptop in the car. I believe it is a garmin....

Well I do know the add on works with your data plan. at least for Sprint anyway. Also the Add on is only as good as your signal stregth and doesnt work when you are roaming. The Palm / Tom Tom comes with the entire package.. mounts, software, Gps reciever and an 1 gb SD card. I was even able to put the maps and software on my 4 gb card as not to shift cards between music and Gps. AND IT DOESNT USE YOUR DATA PLAN. All i know is that the price( $199), and software works great for what i do (Law Enforcement). Every other GPS unit i looked at for vehicles runs between $300-$900...SO to each of his own. Get what works for you.

The Palm / Tom Tom Gps unit uses Bluetooth connection. I can play MP3's as well while the program is working. The software is all on you SD card. But $500 is way too much money. ($199) is all I paid online and it works just the same. I just think it is a more useful way of utilizing your 700WX.
