Default PDANet question

Hi,
A few weeks ago I read several posts regarding the use of PDANet on the 700w. I downloaded the trial and loved it, so I purchased it. I am curious about something however. In the online sofware description on everythingtreo.com it mentions "...If you own a Treo 700w or PPC/XV 6700 with any data plan, PdaNet will make it your high speed wireless Internet Service for your laptop/desktop computer instantly...". I have an ulimited data package thru Verizon and a large number of monthly package minutes. When I use PDANet it does not appear to be using any sort of "1X" or "EV" connection, so is it going thru my actual phone to establish a connection...and if so, then why does the everythingtreo.com description even mention "...with any data plan..." if my package minutes are being used up with each PDANet connection? Also I have noted that I cannot place any call while PDANet is tethered as a modem. Should I expect to be able to send and/or receive any calls while PDANet is connected?
Thx...

It uses your high speed Verizon connection, not the minutes. I haven't checked to see what happens when I receive calls while tethering but I'm pretty sure when I'm streaming internet radio, the call cuts the stream when it comes through. Can anyone else confirm this?

First - When you use the data service through the phone (i.e. visiting web sites on IE) or through PDANet (i.e. tethered to your laptop) you DO NOT use any minutes. 1X and EV designate which network you are connecting to. EVDO (high speed) is not available everywhere. If you have an unlimited data plan you will not see any additional charges on your bill.

Second - You CAN NOT make or receive phone calls when your Treo is connected to your laptop and the data connection is active. Well, I should rephrase this...if you someone is calling you can see that their call is coming in...if you want to answer it your data connection will drop.

Apparently, the new 700wx has the tethering capability built in...you won't have to buy software to do it.

I've been very satsisfied with PDANet...it connects quickly and is easy to setup and use. Even when I've had to hard reset my phone it is easy to reinstall and you won't have to re-enter keys or passwords.

Thanks for the answers, but I am still a little confused regarding 1X and/or EV connections. In my area EV is not yet available, so as you indicated, when I am accessing the Internet via IE or other software, I see a small 1X icon directly above two small "curvy" arrows. When I connect using PDANet, I do not see the 1X icon, but I still see two arrows, however they are "block-looking" and not "curvy". So this lead me to the conclusion that perhaps my package minutes were being used instead of my unlimited data package over the 1X connection.
Thanks...

anytime you use a data service, whether it is indicated by 1X or EV, you do not pay for minutes.

If you're not making a phone call (i.e. calling someone) you will not use up your minutes.
