    Default POP3 E-mail Polling

is it true that the phone will only poll for new e-mail from your currently active account? i have 3 different POP3 accounts set up and i would like the phone to check each one regularly when in standby.

    thanks.

yes, this is true. according to another thread I read, Palm confirmed this is a 'feature' - courtesy of Microsoft.

If getting your emails automatically is important, you may want to look into setting up Wireless Sync from Verizon - although this seems to bring up its own issues with Active Sync. This will lump all your messages into 'Outlook E-mail' in Messaging. If it's important to keep the mailboxes separate, you may have to keep your emails set up as POP3 and manually send/receive. Personally, I just consolidated 3 of my accounts into one (the other 3 now forward to my primary one) and I use 4spartphone.net's hosted Exchange server. This will let you automatically poll your POP3 server for new emails and send you updates based on how you tell Active Sync to look for new items.

IMO - this is a real weakness of this device at this point. The rumors seem to point to the fact that MS will release a patch/upgrade soon that will allow for true Push email from Exchange servers. Maybe they will include 'auto-polling for all POP accounts' to their update????

    Hope this helps

    thanks for the reply.

its not that big a deal. i use Eudora at home and i actually prefer to keep everything separate. i don't want to sync my e-mails... i just like to be able to read them when i'm on the go, and then have them come down again when i get home.
i was surprised there was no choice as to whether to leave the mail on the server...
at least the default is that they stay on the server.

    Default pop3 and wireless sync

I actually use Wireless Sync and 4 Pop accounts without any trouble.

    Default OK, but...

I am sure wireless sync works, as well as other ways of going around the intended route.

What I would love is if the program was able to poll mutiple pop3's without a manual send/receive to do it.

    Any ideas? It is annoying...

You can poll pop3 accounts automatically.

On your email screen go to menu
    then Delivery Preferences
Check box for "Connect and check for messages every:
    Enter minutes (frequency to check).

    You should be OK.

I tried Wireless Sync and pop3. I use the Treo just to read email while on the go and use my primary pc as master email. I like using the web email better than pop3. I some some accounts at SBCYahoo and some at GoDaddy. Both have mobile web email. GoDaddy's IMO is better. Yahoo's is to simple as is appears to be designed for a slow connection and small screen phone. You have to keep asking for more of the email.

i'm sorry but this is BS on palm and Microsoft's part. Email is paramount to users of the 700w. it is a business device and business people need our email. how do they expect to steal people away from their blackberries that work PERFECTLY with all email?

it is sad that every email i want to send i have to remember to hit menu->send/receive and wait patiently as it sends. i never worried with my blackberry. i get new mail, it pops into my inbox. i click send and it sends. never a doubt that it wouldn't go through or just sit in my outbox till i remember to hit send/receive.

i also tried using Wireless sync and while it is ok, it slows down ur device, not all that dependable, and still takes 20min to get ur mail.

if i was microsoft i would say...here's all the money you need to make a blackberry killer. I cannot imagine that microsoft doesn't have more money than RIM.

sorry for the rant...i really love the 700w. best phone/pda i've ever used but the email is just plain awful.
