Question Problem With Update

Hi,

I'm not getting very far with the update. I download PalmTreo700WUpdater.zip and decompress it. When I decompress it I get some strange characters in the name of one of the files - "Palm« TreoÖ 700w Updater". When I run setup.exe it tells me that it cannot locate the file "Palm Treo 700w Updater" (but with different characters (trade mark, etc.)). I am running Windows XP sp2. I am using the built in zip function. I have tried to launch setup.exe directly in PalmTreo700WUpdater.zip. I have tried using the unzip after right clicking on the file.

I must be missing something really stupid ... any ideas?

Thanks,

Ken

I got it to work. I had to rename the file so it didn't have the odd characters and then edit setup.txt so that it pointed to the new name.

Anybody else have this problem?

I didn't have this problem, but from what I've been seeing, it's been a problem for quite a few people. That was actually the first thing I thought when I saw the copyright and trademark symbols in the name. As a web developer, I'm used to running into issues with oddly named files causing issues - so I stay away from them! I guess this is something they maybe should have taken into consideration....glad you got your update working though. Personally, I'm loving it! Makes it feel like a whole new phone.

I had this problem when I used the built-in decompress ability in Windows XP. It created weird characters in the .msi file when trying to translate the stupid special "tm" and "circle R" trademark characters that Palm felt it necessary to put in the FILE NAME!

Anyway, using a different program to extract the .zip file (WinRAR) fixed the problem. Winzip would probably work better too.
