Default Push Email - 700w?

What are the options for push email with the Treo 700w? I was going to purchase one of these today, but I called Goodlink and they said 2nd quarter 2006 was when they were going to support the device. I thought this would be able to connect directly to Exchange 2003 Server SP2, but I read in a review by PC Magazine that an update released later this year would make it compatible with Exchange 2003 SP2. Right now I use a Treo 650 with Goodlink and the push email is great, and I dont want to give this up, but I want a 700w for the EVDO. I also dont want to have to leave a workstation on all of the time. The link to the PC Magazine article is: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1907978,00.asp. The direct quote about Exchange is: "Palm will offer Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack as a free upgrade later this year, which will enable true push e-mail with corporate Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 servers." To me this means it doesnt now. Anyone got any other ideas or is this article incorrect? Thanks for the replies in advance.

That's definitely news to me. I was under the impression that with WM5.0 it would already have what it needed. I know that Exchange SP2 is already ready.

Yes... I was quite surprised too. I am just wondering if PC magazine has a clue here or not. I would be purchasing this phone right now if I could get confirmation that it works with Exchange 2003 SP2. I dont want to give up my 650 with Goodlink for having to have my workstation on again.

MS is not supposed to offer this upgrade until March and then Verizon has to test it so maybe by December if we are lucky.

Here's a great, long review on another site. They reference the MSFP (Messaging and Security Feature Pack).

Out of the box, the 700w will support the push/pull technology where the Exchange Server will send an SMS message to the phone, and tell it to Sync.

Once the MSFP is available, it will support the direct Push technology, eliminating the need to the SMS part of the puzzle.

Default How?@$@%???

How did you get the push email working??? I'm going crazy here... I thought the email services would work better out of box but this is just bad.

I'm running exchange Server 2003

...also does anyone have a date or better idea of when MSFP is going to be released?

Default Lanlogic

I bought my domain and signed up with LanLogic.

They are hosting my email solution through their exchange 2003 server and through activesync, it takes care of everything. proactive pushing and pulling to both my laptop and my tre700.

It is awesome.

All calendar and contacts sync as well.

Couple of thoughts...
  1. On your Exchange Server, can you connect to https://server.domain.com/oma ?
  2. Did you download/install the certificate from your Exchange Server to your Treo?
  3. Are you getting any errors on your Treo?
Overall, if your Exchange Server is setup, my experience IS that the Treo will work perfectly out of the box. My guess is that there's some disconnect on Exchange. I'm happy to go through a Q & A here to help you through it, and to document it in the forum.

Awesome Trey...thank you so much.

Ok... Im not at the office right now but I will try first thing in the morning at see if I can connect to that address, if its there I will get into it.

Second how do I know if I have the certificate installed? If I had to guess I would say no, but I'm really not sure. Where would I get it?

Errors.... ha
I'm ready to through this thing against the wall. I get my e-mail 20min->hours later.

I got the phone through Verizon Wireless and they made it seem like I needed to install their wireless sync software which they tell me has bugs in it and yes that produces some errors. I read about this "Messaging and Security Feature Pack" I thought that’s what I need in order to set up correctly push e-mail. Is this not true? Is there another way? Do I not need to use the Verizon Wireless Sync Software?

Any help is appreciated everyone in the office with their Blackberry's are getting a good laugh, I'd love to show them up. From what I know I have Exchange 2003 Server SP1 installed on the sever, I could find out any additional information without a problem.
