Default Sufing the Web while Charging

My first Treo recently died. It would power on, but I was not able to enable the phone to work. Luckily Verizon sent me a new one last week, and it works a whole lot better now.

I noticed something though and wasn't sure if this was a defect or not. Whenever I have my phone charging in the cradle, I am not able to be on the internet. When I try going to different web pages I get 'page not found'. Then when I take the phone out of the charging cradle and try to do the same activity, I am able to do it without any problems.

Has anyone experienced this before? Basically, it seems like internet is disabled when charging the phone.

    Default blast from the past

you the funny thing is that I was thinking about this the other day - You know if you had an older model palm/visor and your computer was connnected to the internet while your pda was connected to the computer you surf the internet on both devices - i believe that is how the avantgo actually worked its magic- good luck with finding out the error wih that

I am definitely able to surf while it is connected and synced. I would have to say there is a defect or something. Have you tried a soft and/or hard reset?

I've tried both a soft and hard reset. I called Verizon today, and the lady said that what I was experiencing was correct, 'cause I'm NOT supposed to be able to charge and surf at the same time.

It's weird 'cause I swear on my other Treo 700w I could do both.

Well I am making this post from my 700 while it is charging and is synced. I seem to remember always being able to do this. How about anyone else?

Here is a screenshot as I was making the post above. You can see the battery icon shows it is charging.

Thanks everyone, I think I figured it out.

    1. Accessing the internet is possible with the phone in the charging cradle.

    2. What's not possible is to access the internet while the phone is in the cradle AND active sync is running at the same time.

I am currently typing this messge out on my PC keyboard, because I have a program that displays the TREO screen on my PC screen. The difference is that the window on my PC shows the TREO screen 5"x5"...plus it's much easier to type on the PC than tap on the TREO.

So, you may ask, why not just access the internet on the PC? The answer is that I don't have an ISP :-)

So what I've done to get around #2 above is to log into everythingtreo.com, log into the forums and bring up the new reply to this thread.

Then, I type this out on my PC and it simultanously appears on my TREO. After that I disconnect the usb for activesync, and tap send on the TREO!

I know it's a bit convaluted - but it gets me by until I get my ISP. It's a great way to construct long winded e-mails as well.

you can try using PDAnet to surf the internet on your PC using your treo as your connection to the internet.

When you say activesync running do you mean actually syncing? I can have my phone docked (charging and synced) and still access the internet.

And I agree, checkout PDAnet. I love it. Whenever the office internet goes down, I switch right over to that connection and keep on working.

    Thanks all.

I heard about PDA net, but also understand that using the Treo as a wireless modem is a violation of their T&C's...punishable by hotlining your account or charging huge fees. So - I've tried to stay away from that.

When I say activesync on I mean when it says "Connected" on the PC. Whenever I do that and try to surft the net I get a "page cannot be displayed" error. Then when I remove the phone from it's charging/sync cradle it works just fine and I am able to surf.

In fact, I can surf when charging and with the usb connected to the PC as long as I disable activesync.

I could've sworn that my prevous TREO 700w didn't act that way - that I could sync and charge and surf all at the same time. But, the Verizon lady said that my phone is behaving correctly - so it's odd.
