Teathered Connection with a Treo-700
With the Blackberry 7130 fireing the first shot on the EVDO/Laptop connection. How long before the Treo 700w or 700p(What ever the new Palm version will be called) will have the same ability?
I want to have the option to use my PDA phone as a Highspeed modem through the wireless network, with out a seperate device.

This you can already do via software such as PDANet. So it would stand to reason that you would be able to. However, carriers like Cingular would charge you a higher rate for doing so, so be careful when making that call.

i really hope it works, i'd love to be able to have a highspeed connection for my laptop while i'm on the road

Unless Verizon offers the same tethering option they announced for the lastest Crackberry I don't see DUN being an option.

That's my point. More devices will come on line with feature. As of now Verizon is only supporting the two Blackberry phones. The tech team told me they have the replacemnet for the xv6600 in for beta testing and it will also have the teathered feature. This will be a feature ever smart phone user who travels will want, as I do.
I understand Sprint will get the Treo 700p first. Typically, how long before other carriers get the new platform?

3 to 6 months, usually the latter.

3-6 month! Wow! that is a long delay. They did not have that kind of delay with the 650's. Most of the Treo guys are lock solid Palm guys anyhow. I don't see a 650 user switching to Sprint just because they have the 700p. They will just wait until their provider gets the phone.
Myself I have Sprint and will be changing to Verizon next year. I like the Palm OS but not married to it and will not sway my decision to go to Verizon. The service and device/network features are more important to me. This is why I am so interested in the teathered connection issue.

I would like the tethering option, but its not something I would need all the time, but still nice to have.
