Default Thinking Of getting a 700w

if/when it releases on Sprint's network that is...

I'm definitely a "do heavy research before buying" kind of guy and I've made mind my mind up to get a 700. I really the 700w. I'm used to windows and really prefer that interface over the palm OS. Now I can do all the things I need to do with either OS. Web browsing, POP email, using ringtones created by me and assigning them to contacts.

I'm just a little leary of some the issues I hear about the 700w. Mostly things like having PIE just close when another program is running with it. A fix was posted, stated it works, but then people said it doesn't. I've seen people on sll the forums stating they use programs like MemMaid and sktools to free up memory and such. How often do these program closeouts happen and is it really THAT bad? I really rather go with the w, but if it's only going to run one proggie at a time I could be using the p.. Any input is appreciated.

I have the Sprint Treo 700p and will be getting a Verizon 700W. Anyway, from what I have read, it appears that the device works well for most people if one pays attention to its limitations. Those limitations are basically memory related. The OS requries more space and uses more resources than the Palm OS. If you do not plan on doing a bunch of things simultaneously, then it will probably be ok for you.

It being Palm's first entry in this area, it does have its problems. The other sites, mytreo.net and treocentral.com have active areas that discuss the 700w.

As a note, everything the 700w does can also be done/accomplished with the 650 & 700p. The POS has for years interfaced with Outlook. There are programs (Documents To Go) that work well with Word, Excel and Power Point. I have DTG and recommend it without hesitation. In addition, ChatterEmail provides you true push mail and it is an excellently supported application.
