Negatory. An hour worth of googling though shows me it's because I require SSL, and have forms based authentication enabled. (KB 817379). Stupid, stupid stupid - I have to lose a very important feature (SSL req.) in order to support mobile activesync, and that does not sit well with me.
Great job there, MS. Another wonderful design.

This is usually very easily worked around. What we are doing in all of our implementations is NOT requiring SSL on the /Exchange virtual directory. Then, on the firewalls, we are only passing port 443 (SSL) through to the Exchange server. So, from OUTSIDE (Internet), the only thing that can connect to the Exchange server is SSL, but from the inside, ActiveSync and OMA can connect to itself on port 80 just fine.

BeachBum how do I set it up
BeachBum, I have a treo 650 and we just installed SP2 for Exchange 2003. Most of the company uses Blackberry, but a small pocket of users are on the Treo 650. Can you give me detail on what is required to make push email a reality for us? feel free to email me at craig@craigwerlin.com Thanks a ton.

Craig,
I don't think there is a one size fits all solution to this. For us, with a single Exchange Server, it involved creating a new virtual directory with different permissions than the default oma directory. This was partly needed because we wanted to keep the setup where our mobile users could still login to Outlook Web Access with just a username, not domain/username. The initial permissions that Microsoft PSS recommended to me broke our original login setup for OWA - thus the need for a new virtual directory just to handle the access for OMA. The other thing that I needed to do was upgrade the firmware on the Treo 650 to the latest version (latest versamail).
Honestly, I have pages of instructions from Microsoft, but I'm hesitant to just forward them as they could make things worse for you if your setup is different.
If you really need this to work, I'd suggest opening a case with Microsoft PSS and have them help you. They actually handled it quite well with an email only support case.
