Default Treo 700

Light and thin is "in" for me, too. Metallic doesn't have to mean thick and heavy. While we're wishing, it would also be nice if the antenna was hidden inside.

Default 700 upgrade

In addition to everything else I hope they put an off button for the user. These dang things tend to become addictive. I think my bluetooth is growing roots in my ear. Maybe they will make a waterproof version so I can take it in the shower with me too, LOL.

Default What may be to come...

I have been using a palm pilot for almost 5 years now, and after I bought my first handspring, i knew that was the product I wanted to stick with. I have owned the Visor, T300, and now the 650. The 650 has been a good device for me, but if the necessary improvements to the next generation come at some ridiculous cost, I will keep using what ive got. There are a few things I would like to see in the next treo however, and windows mobile is not one of those things.

Bluetooth; A nice feature, but it could work better, while in its pouch case three feet from my ear I experience frequent static on my PalmOne BT headset, and a few others didn't even work.

Voice dialing; For 600 bucks Palm could have included some form of decent voice activation software. Samsung uses the VoiceSignal software, which is available for the treo, but at a cost, it should be included.

Speakers; The earpiece volume on th treo could stand to be alot louder, I almost always find myself using the Bluetooth headset due to the crappy earpiece. Stereo sound would have been nice, maybe with a little better performing speaker as well, the ringtones could stand to be louder, but I can't make anything louder, I'm afraid the speaker will blow.

Graffiti; Need I say More. Dont lose the keyboard, but just make grafitti a possibility, maybe like on the pocket PC, if the screen were a little larger, this would not be such an issue.

Form Factor; I would like to see a slider type design, such as the Samsung i730, or UT Starcom 6600. This would allow for the larger screen, and a keyboard.

Expansion; Some may find this weird, but I would like to see 2 SD slots. I hate the idea of putting a hard drive into a phone, it suck battery life, and if it recives enough of a shock, it will no longer work(I experienced this with a microdrive in my digital camera). @ slots would allow you to copy files from one card to the next, or just store way more information. One slot under the battery like a sim card would be cool, they dont both need to be accessible from the outside.

Durability; How about a alloy case, but it must be coated in a thin rubber, as alloy cases can be slippery, and very succeptiable to temperature changes, and transferring them to the side of your face.

PTT; Push-to-Talk...almost every carrier has it or is working on implimenting it, another feature i would like to see added.

Voice Recording; This does not need to be fancy, just something to allow recording of thoughts and notes, as I find it very difficult to type while driving.

Camera; Lose the video recording, the quality is horrid anyways, I would rather see a 2MP still camera with a xenon flash.

Battery; I have been using the Mugen extended life battery, and I must say I am thouroughly impressed. A little bit larger battery would allow my perfect device to function without power losses.

Keep in mind these are my opinions, If you like them, cool, if not, thats cool to. For me tu spent more money on another device, it must have these features, if not, my 650 will continue to suit me.

Favorite Next generation Treo and its cost

I expect the next Treo priced not higher than current $600 level.

At these current pc and other gadget price levels, like desktops at $400s and laptops starting from $600s, any higher price for Treo than current prices would lose its reasonableness and economical desirability to own one for many people ...imho. In fact, I even expect the price for next Treo lower then current levels.

While I believe, Treo's are the best convergence device on the market now, I also believe that resonable and more effordable prices along with new advancement on next Treo would be able to reach bigger masses and turn so many to Treo nation.

In my personal wish list to see in the next Treo are:
Solution to soft resets
Wi-fi
EVDO
at least 1.3 mp camera
minimum 64 mb internal memory
voice activation
a bigger screen

Last but not least, I hope, we dont wait as far as 2006 to meet the next generation on the stores.

What about an "entry-level" Treo. A step above a cellphone, but doesn't run all of the Palm OS apps. Phone quality of a Motorola, simplicity of an iPod and the contact management, email, web features of the Treo. Give it a simple app to sync with -- AND make it work 99.9% of the time no matter what platform.

Basically dumb down the Treo - the software and the sync process. Even if you limit the features, it will still be a "smarter" phone than many -- and ready for the masses (and my wife)

-Chris

p.s. - Did I just sort of describe a Blackberry with the stylings of a Treo?

Yes, I think I remember hearing this type of theory before the Treo 650 came out. A stripped down Treo 700, with no camera, no BT (maybe) and limited features that would allow the Treo to be accessible at a range of price points.

Default Lose the camera?

Am I the only one who'd be willing to sacrifice the camera in order to make the phone a bit thinner? I love the Treo (650) because it eliminates the need for a separate phone and Palm (and Ipod, etc., etc.), but I NEVER use the camera, and I don't mind carrying one separately when I need it!!

Nope. I would sacrifice the camera for width or even a hundred dollars off the price. I havent gotten a Treo yet, but I have seen 650's that are sold without the camera. Of course, they are the same price. Hopfully the 700 will have a version that has no camera and will actually be less expensive...

Default 700p too late for me

My T3 is showing it's age
I can't go two consecutive hour long meetings, taking a few notes and looking up a couple of items (1/2 hour on time at minimum brightness) without several battery warnings. Also my digitizer "offset" is getting worse.

I've got T-Mobile and am looking at buying an unlocked GSM 650, but I'm hesitant.

I'd like to carry one device instead of two, but will the smaller screen size work for me?
I can get TealScript for Graffiti (and G1 at that, but it is designed around the keyboard - will an old G1 hand like me adapt?
Will there be enough usable memory? I've only got 10 of my T3's 52M available, but I'm sure I can free up lots more with PowerRun, but will it feel too slow?

Of course, I need somethings very soon and the Treo 650 seems that only game in town. Everything else is just too big.

Hmmm, maybe I'll get it now and when the 700p GSM model comes out in 2nd Half of 2006, I can get that and pass the 650 to my wife, who's Tungsten T will probably want replacing.....
