I'll take a shot and just say to check the folks at www.pocketpcthoughts.com as they are quite handy with Active Sync issues. I dont know any more than that at this time as I dont have a WM device to play with (need to get one perphaps?)

I had the same problem and it was due to third party software that I added. I removed all 3rd party software which required a hard reset. I rebooted my desk top and it is working fine now. Some windows mobile compatable software seems to get stuck in the system and does not remove with the remove program file. I am waiting for verizon to add the backup utility so that I can make a backup of my handheld before adding new software in case I have to perform another hard reset.

Default Some progress

I'm having the same problem, though it had been working just fine for the first week. I sync to an Exchange Server and a laptop, and the problem seems to be with the sync to the laptop. I've deleted the partnership and got it to sync to the exchange server but it fails when I try to add back the sync of notes (maybe anything else) to the laptop.

Kevinmg, I have not been able to connect via USB since I bought the device 2 weeks ago. I bought a bluetooth adapter and paired the 700w with my phone, and I was able to get my first connection/sync through bluetooth last night.

I just got both USB and Bluetooth working this morning

The root of the problem seemed to be Wireless Sync...now i just have everything set up through Outlook and Active Sync and everything seems to be running without issue...let's hope it stays that way!

my problem dealt with my startup items. just for fun go to your start menu, click Run, type msconfig and press enter. go to the startup tab and disable all check marks. BUT keep activesync checked. restart your comp. if it connects it is an issue with a startup item. now check things one by one and restart to find the software it doesn't like to play nice with. that was my issue and it fixed it completely. hope this helped!

Default Looking for changes

I've definately determined that my problem isn't with the Exchange Server sync, but the connection to the PC. It doesn't matter if I check Notes, Media or Favorites, after they sync ActiveSync hangs on "Looking for Changes" and the after about 5 minutes it times outand puts up a dialog box about Combining items, replacing items or Do not Sync at this time. No matter what I choose, I get an error of something like "Sycronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft Activesync troubleshooter in Microsoft Activesync Help on your desktop computer."

The only way to recover that I've found is to delete the partnership, recreate it and do not try to sync anything on the desktop. I can't live with that so I have to find the problem. Other than this I LOVE this device.

I am having the same issue. XP Pro SP1, Outlook 2003. When I got the device the other day, I installed AS 4.1 over 3.8 (a vestige of my IpaQ). When I could not connect I assumed it was a DLL conflict, so I did a full removal of AS, invluding making sure there were no lingering DLLs, then rebooted and did a fresh install of AS4.1. Still no dice.

The only way I have been able to sync is via IR, which works flawlessly. Since I'm not really doing anything other than my exchange OTA sinc, this works for me whan I need to install programs, but I am kind of upset that everything does not work as promised.

Default I had to do a hard reset!

I've only had my Treo 700 a few days, so I'm still playing....I lost my sync capabilites as well when I installed the wireless sync. I ended up doing a hard rest (holding the power key and pushing the reset button) and that resolved my sync problem.....other then I can't sync my contacts with Outlook 2003.
