Question Treo 700w & Exchange Server SP2 "Direct Push" Delivery Benchmark

From the time the email message appears in Outlook to the time you can read the email alert on the phone.

Delivery time: 14 seconds (Exchange Server ISP: Verizon Business DSL)

Post your "Direct Push" benchmark delivery times here along with the details of your Exchange Server such as the ISP being used to host your corporate Exchange server or the hosting company who hosts your email.

I also have a BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.1 and the delivery times for the BlackBerry solution are usualy between 3-5 seconds after arriving in my Outlook inbox.

NOTE: This is for "Direct Push" users only, NOT POP3, IMAP, Hotmail or Wireless Sync.

I actually get the notification on my Treo BEFORE the email appears in Outlook on my laptop. It's anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds quicker on my Treo. If it is an internal email from a fellow employee, it gets to my Treo 5 to 10 seconds before Outlook. If it is an external email, eg yahoo or a client, it is usually on my Treo 20 to 30 seconds before Outlook.

Unfortunately, I am not our Exchange Server admin so I don't know the details on how it is setup.

the messages usually get to my phone within about 30 seconds of sending....

also note that one thing that will affect speed is the fact that typically BIS only delivers a few KB of the message - while I know my Treo is set to download the whole thing.

Your Outlook must be connected via RPC over HTTP or something which causes the delay in Outlook delivery. Email messages appear in realtime using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 via a LAN and I believe over the internet as well (Comcast blocks Outlook ports).

I'm not using RPC over HTTPs. I'm straight into Exchange. I AM using Cached mode, however.

My Treo gets my messages 5 seconds faster than Outlook.

Delivery times 5 - 15 seconds. I suspect the very minor delay at times is Verizon (I'm in a 1x area).

Exchange 2003 SP2.
Exchange ISP: Sprint T1

I ran the update (1.10) last night for the first time. I was gonna say its extremely slower. But, I just reactivated (*228) my phone, even though I didn't need to, and it seems to be working a whole lot faster. Last night, emails were taking sometime to get to the phone via my yahoo account. And it seemed as if my other IMAP accounts weren't getting checked at the intervals that I told it to check. Today seems to be different as its faster and checking all my accounts w/o having the particular account screen left in focus. I'll see how it works over the next week.

The update instructions say that you should do this after you update.

yea, I'm a rebel .

Anyway, I also realized that our server will check to see if a message is spam by sending a message back to the original sender and waiting for a reply. If that's successful, the original email will be sent to the intended recipient. This was also causing a delay. But, once the email hits my desktop outlook client, it hits my phone maybe 2-3 seconds later.

My biggest thing with this update, was not having to force a check upon my POP3 and IMAP accounts. I wanted all my accounts to check w/o my interaction which seems to be the case now.
