Default Treo 700wx GPS /Sprint

I've recently retired my Palm TX and Motorola i560 and moved to a Palm Treo 700wx with Sprint. The manual says that the 700wx is GPS enabled. However, I do have questions.

Do I need any additional hardware to use the 700wx as a GPS device?

I have the unlimited "Ultimate Sprint Power Vision" package that is supposed to let me have unlimited Sprint Navagation access. I've looked but can't seem to find this software. I have found Microsoft's "Live Search" for Sprint. Is that the same thing?

Would I be better off scaling back my unlimited plan and using the AAA or Garmin GPS software?

Any help will be appreciated.

JP

I am currently trying to figure out the same thing . But anyhow that is correct that the treo 700wx is gps enabled, i'm not sure of what exactly that means, whether it means theres gps built in or if it means you can put gps accessory plugins and it'll read it? idont know. I think there's a few guides on youtube though on how to mess with the gps settings, like the COM ports and the Baud rates (under settings-->System-->GPS) And Windows Live Search, looks like under settings you can set which COM ports to use, but i dont know what COM ports will do anything? Try looking through youtube, theres a bunch of vids up of people showing how to go through things with the treo.

You have several options. You can purchase a GPS reciever for you phone and use it with Sprint data plan. Or you could do what i do and purchase the entire GPS pacakage online which frees up your phone. I have TOM TOM 6 for my 700wx and i love it. It doesnt tie up my data network... allowing me to get emails, text and phone calls while using the software. It only uses bluetooth and doesnt require its own COM Ports. Its up to you and your needs.

So the Treo700WX needs a seperate GPS receiver for the GPS to work? That's right, i just realized GPS enabled not capable. This tomtom navi 6 is looking pretty interesting to me, i think i'll get one too!

Oh wait, I'm confused. You need to buy a seperate bluetooth wireless receiver to use the tomtom6? Or does the tomtom6 package already come with the bluetooh wireless receiver?

No, It comes complete with a seperate GPS reciever that connects to your 700WX via bluetooth. Here is the link...

So it doesnt come with a CD or DVD with the maps on it rather it comes with another 4GB card (or something like that). Is it possable to take the data on that card and copy it onto another card I have in use now??

Yes it comes with a CD that has all the maps on this planet. On the 1GB card that comes with it, there is only USA, CANADA & GUAM on the card (I deleted Guam lol). But to answer your question you can copy and paste everything on the TOM TOM 6 card to your own SD card.

The entire TOM TOM 6 file takes up 996MB of memory. I had a 2GB card which left little room for MP3 music, pics and videos. But i transferred the TOM TOM 6 software to my 4GB SDHC card and it works fine. Its all in the package.

Cool indeed, I am looking at that very seriously. Having to lug the laptop around everywhere is a drag.
