Hello Treo Faithful,

I have a 700wx and it's my first CDMA device and my first Windows powered Treo. I have had lots of experience with Palm devices and prefer them but I couldn't justify spending big money on an OS that is old and tired. (Looking forward to the Linux model in Q4

).

Anyway, I am wondering how software updates occur. Does Microsoft make an update or does Palm? I would suspect it's Microsoft but I am just wondering. Is this a case of having 1.10 of WM5 forever or is there an upgrade path to WM6 or what.

If anyone can shed some light that would be great.

nothing announce as far as WM6 or the 700 series. Definite WM6 on the 750 also gets HSDPA 3g service upgrade.

So I take it Microsoft would be publishing the update and not Palm? I thought Palm had done some tweaking to the UI and perhaps some underlying code.

If there was going to be an update to WM5 or an upgrade to WM6 where would it come from, Palm or Microsoft?

microsoft gives the code to palm as I understand it and palm makes the adjustments. The WM6 comes from microsoft through palm. For the 750 as stated will also upgrade 3g to HSDPA speeds. if you have 3g service. I understand that cdma is getting the 750 with WM^ after ATT exclusivity ends and also 755 which will be 680 ish with palm os

I get my updates from Palm when I had WM3

right microsoft releases the code to palm and palm makes modifications or additions and checks it against their systems for integrity and then releases it to customers for download etc

Palm checks for integrity! LOL Sorry, just thinking about past releases. ROFL.

Anyway, that being said, is there any word on WM6 coming to the 700wx? I don't know if the 700w meets the spec's for WM6 memory wise but I am sure the 700wx does.

I know they want to sell more hardware but I am not keen to buying a new device to get a software patch. I don't know why everyone wants the new form factor, having an SDIO slot for a wifi card and other goodies is much more appealing than a MiniSD slot. IMO.

I understand what you are saying but palm in theory does check as well as the carrier and you could probably LOL or a big Hah or HUH to those as well

Read a number of posts on WM6, but as to this specific question, does anybody know if / how you would get an update to the standard WM5? I know that *2 will occasionally do an update to the phone, but I don't think that is to the OS. I know my old Dell Axim used to have ROM updates published, but have never seen one for the Treo or PPC. Any ideas? Thanks.

I dont know if palm and ms will be doing an upgrade for the 700w wx or not I dont think anything has been announced except for the 750.

By thway PALM just announced that the Linux treos will not be out until 2008 (I am assuming fiscal) year.
