Default Treo 700wx sync with Windows Mobile Device Ctr in Vista

Okay, so I just loaded Vista Ultimate. Very Very impressed. No issue with install or compatability EXCEPT with my Treo. I admit my driver disk is at the office and that may be the simple solution, but I can't get it to sync in the mobile device center.

It loads a generic driver and I can explore my 700, but it treats it like an Mp3 player or something, and doesnt' give me any sync options to Outlook, etc.

Is this a simple driver issue that I will correct tomorrow at the office, or is there a driver to download so I don't have to wait?

Thanks!

From what I've read it's something you'll have to wait for an updated Vista driver.

Actually when I tried to connect it, Vista automatically downloaded this program, but YES, this is what was necessary to make it work, and it now does!

Actually Vista only updated the existing Vista driver for the limited Windows Vista Mobile Device Center. What you downloaded was the full version of the Windows Vista Mobile Device Center 6.

I seem to recall that the Firewall rules get over populated with every install of the Beta, but not sure about this release.

If anyone wants to sync with Outlook and Vista they need to install that program.

Morpheus,

I'm certainly not trying to argumentative here, so please don't take offense, but the first two times I tried to connect my Treo 700wx or my Moto Q, it opened the 'sync' center and read the devices as "mp3" players. Then for some reason i uninstalled them, tried again, and it gave me a pop up to download the Mobile Device Center, which I did. It then started recognizing them as phones. yesterday when i tried to sync the 700wx, it took forever. Today, after following your link, I installed the driver updates, which is what your link took me too, and it sync's in seconds.

Thanks just my experience. Bottom line, it worked for me, and I'm sync'd and ready to go.

I'm having some difficulty with errors, because I have the phone set to sync to my email server "as items arrive" and if it's doing that while the sync center is trying to sync the other things like calendar, contacts, etc, I get an error that the server is busy.

Also, I've noticed that when I connect the phone either bluetooth or usb, it uses the "sync" center to syncronize, and I have to manually open the Mobile Device Center if I want to see it. Not that I need to see it, but I thought the Sync Center was replaced by the MDC, but apparently they both coexist peacefully.

Now, the next issue I'm going to face, i have the upgrade to Office 2007. Will this work without trouble for Sync, or will I have to start the whole process over again?

I'm moving from Office 2003 to 2007, when I have the courage! :-)

What you might want to do is remove remove your device from syncing, go into add/remove applet and remove all the items (2) that have to do with Windows Mobile device, reboot, start the sync and allow the drivers to install, use windows update to grab any updates, right click on the Vista Mobile Device Center 6 file from the link above and select to run as administrator. This will give you a clean install.
