Default Treo 700wx Vs Motorola Q

I am new to the forum and new to the smart phone. I have the option through my work to get a Motorola Q or the Palm Treo 700wx. I am very impressed with this forum and all the information. Looking for any insight or comparisons between the two phones, good, bad, whatever. I am looking to use the phone for the phone obviously and then for calendaring, looking at and editing word and excel files, media player, etc. In the beginning I will only have the phone and not the data package... still working on that through the employer as I would like to have access to email and the internet. Thanks in advance for any information. Service will be through Verizon if that makes a difference.

" looking at and editing word and excel files,"

If this is one of the items you need to do, then your ONLY choice is the Treo; Q is unable to work with MS Docs other than to read them - and then I dont believe it will do it in their native form.

That is the reason that I use the 700W as I need to use native Excel documents on the road - reading, editing and originating.

That is what I have found from my research. Does anyone else have any pros or cons to one or both of the phones. I want to make sure that I get teh best one, as I will probably have it for awhile. Thanks.

Ive had the Q and ended up trading it in for the 700wx. Best move I could make. The Q is simply a defective device and should not be sold (I only had the black Q so I cant speak for the silver owners). I literally went though 6 replacement devices, some I tweaked (everythingq.com) some I left with their default settings. Eventually all of them had something seriously wrong with them, ranging from unable to connect to internet, Microphone/speakerphone did not work, one bricked on me (went completly dead) for no reason, not to mention the battery life is pretty horrible. At one point I brought in a defective unit to Verizon, they gave me a brand new unit out of the box and I wasnt even out of the store yet when I had to head right back to tech support bc that device was also defective. Its a pretty device with a lot of potential. But comming from a Dell Axim x51v I am super happy to be back in the pocket PC OS. Personally I really like the treo even though its much thicker then the Q, but attribute that to a better battery and more functionality. I am also waiting for the Samsung i760 to drop for Verizon on July 4th, that looks like a very nice device. Something to consider if you can wait 10 days

I agree with lasllc. It all depends on what you are going to do with the Treo.

I am a Sprint Q user and my wife has the Sprint Treo 700wx. I enjoy my Q and have had no issues with it. There are several of my co-workers with the Q and I asked them if they had any issues with it before I got mine as I read it was very buggy. They all stated no issues. All of us have gotten ours within the past 5 months I would guess and I do know Motorola sent out an update early in the year. I mainly use my Q as a planner, I sync with my office exchange server get my meetings, read/reply to email, open docs, and communicate with my Office via IM using Mobile Communicator and that is about it. Though there are lots of other fun stuff I do with it like watch TV via my Slingbox, it is a little more powerful than it appears. You can research for yourself at www.everythingq.com.

My wife on the other hand uses her Treo as a planner, reads and edits documents, everyday PDA computer processing basically. If I needed to use my Q to the extent she uses her Treo it would be difficult and I would have been better off with a Treo. One thing to remember, a Treo is classified as a PPC and a Q is classified as a Smart Phone. So if you are going to use it as my wife and lasllc does then I would recommend the Treo.

Don't forget there is a new Treo out the 755p, I'm hearing nothing but great things on this one.

Hope this helps you out.

I'm a former Q user. You can get DocumentsToGo on the Q and still do office documents, but with the lack of a touch screen and the horrid battery life I would go with a treo.

My 3rd Q (2 Black, 1 Silver) went completely dead today and they gave me a 700WX, so far so good. The battery life is 100% better, it has real MS Office Apps and the keyboard has a better feel. I spent more time with tech support with Q in first week than in 3 years with my Blackberry.

Default don't get the Q!

I just sold my q for a treo 700w. best move i could have made. the q, while a nice phone (i had the black one') just wasnt cutting it... it constantly died on me... i went through 3 replacement devices and i was in with verizon tech support weekly for problems... i would go with the treo.

Hi, new to the forum. Just bought the 700wx to replace the Q. The biggest thing I found objectionable with the Q was the lact of touch screen and the ability to use the MS apps. I had quite a few small spreadsheets setup for price quotes; etc. I just couldn't find a way to use the Q to my satisfaction.

im also a former Q user. gosh that phone is horrible compared to my treo 700W

the only pro i find that phone has is the camera quality in that it has a flash and the slim body.

other than that BOO to the Q
