your provider may refer to this as "phone as modem" mode, or "tethered" mode. Either way, it can be done, and fees apply beyond standard data plan in most cases. To use this feature, you need to enable Dial Up Networking (DUN) on your phone. Your user's manual should cover this with the specific info for your phone/provider.

i wish it did cover this info..all i got was a little booklet on how to turn on and off..heh...if im not mistaken i have unlimited use of internet but unsure if costs apply to use second device. will call and see. but it would seem to me to be reduntant to use dial up thru bluetooth but maybe i dont grasp this concept of "tethering" ill try to do some reading on this now that i have a word to look up..thank you...if you or anyone else has instructions on how to do this i would appreciate a link but i will go look for it now...again my thanks...pacman/markl

I dont know about the 700 but the user guide on the 750 is on the disk or the web and you can download it as a pdf. I have printed mine out and I find its easier to look stuff that way. I will look on the palm site and gey back w you later.

I looked up in palm.com the user guide for the 700w/x for sprint and the only mention of dial up networking was in the definistions section. I could not tell from your posts what service you were on. When I installed my software on the desktop is asked if I wanted the user guide shortcut on the desktop and I said yes. I would suggest pulling the user guide up and looking through it.

Who is your carrier? Verizon did not allow tethering with the 700w, but I just got a 700wx, pay an extra ($15?)/month, and use my synch cable to get Broadband Access on my laptop. You have to install the Access Manager on your laptop, and everytime you want to tether you need to Activate the Modem Link program on the Treo (I set it up so I hit shift and send to open the program). Also, the desktop manager seems a little fickle, but once you connect, it's great. You can call Palm for help at 877-426-3777 - they ask who your carrier is so you (hopefully) get the right info.

If you have Windows Vista you do not need the Access Manager. FYI
