Unlocking Verizon Treo

I just got a Verizon Palm Treo 700wx from ebay (fantastic deal) and I'm in the process of switching it over to telus (Canadian CDMA provider). I think I know what to do:

1) Flash it with Telus ROM

2)Clone the ESN from my existing phone (Razr) over to it.

Am I on the right track?

wont they just allow you to change you phone and give them the new esn.
I have a treo on verizon and someone at wor turnd theirs in. I took theirs it was less beat up htan mine. a simple call to verizon changed the number to esn assigment.
