Default Using Gmail with my 700W

Hello all, I've seen some other threads on the subject, but they're all somewhat jumbled and confusing. Simply put, has anyone successfully setup an account on their 700W to access their gmail account? Can you send AND receive email? If so, does it take the emails off of your Gmail inbox altogether so it's not there when you try to access it on the internet with a regular computer? After many tries at setting it up(and I have no idea what I did differently;nothing as far as I can tell) I have finally gotten an account established on my 700W for my gmail. For the longest time, it wouldnt' even logon, but now it does. I can send email. But when I send/receive, there are still no emails that are received. So it's still showing zero emails in the inbox. I have used the correct incoming and outgoing server names. I checked that an SSL connnection is required and I checked that outgoing mail requires authentication. I am leaving the place for Domain blank. Any insight for a newbie? Many thanks.

Log on to your gmail account on a computer. Click Settings in the upper right corner of the screen. Go to the Forwarding and POP tab. Click the radio button "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded". Then a little below that section you have the option to keep/delete/archive your gmail after it's been pushed to your Treo.

If you've already properly set up your gmail on your Treo, then all should work well.

Be aware too - that you can set up multiple gmail accounts and have them forward to one main gmail account and then from your main gmail account it's pushed to your Treo.

You can also set up your main gmail account to forward to an outlook email account (like comcast for example) and if you've got that one set up properly you can receive your gmails that way.

There is also a gmail mobile website. So alternately, you could log on to your account on your Treo and receive and send gmails that way too.

I wrote these directions awhile ago, follow them and you should be all set!

"First, don't use push unless you are in an EV-DO area. Reason being, data is constantly being transmitted and unless you are in an EV-DO area you won't be able to receive phone calls while data is being passed.

Next, here are the steps to set up email:

1. Go into "messaging"
2. Then, Menu, Tools, New Account...
3. Put in your email address (ex. name@gmail.com), outlook will attempt to set up port configs but usually doesn't do it correctly.
4. Your user name is ex. name@gmail.com, not just the name before the @
5. I forget the next steps in their entirety but you have to configure the incoming mail and outgoing mail like so, Incoming: pop.gmail.com:995 Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com:465
and they both use SSL authentication
6. After you type those in click the options button and set the time interval to check for email. Once again, if you are not in an EV-DO area I wouldn't set this to anything but the next part is important, click next and then you can change the settings for viewing older mail. Now, you have to check the Requires SSL connection box, if you don't it won't work correctly"
