    Default Verizon Push Email

I really apologize if this is somewhere else on the forum, but I wasn't able to find this question on any of the searches I did.

My question has to deal with push email from Verizon.

I have the 700w, which is an amazing phone, and want to use it to push my POP3 accounts to my phone automatically. I use Thunderbird (Mozilla) as my email program, so having Outlook open all the time on my PC isn't an option.

Verizon's instructions are a little unclear on POP# stuff. I know if you have a Microsoft Exchange, you need to have Outlook open all the time on your computer to access email, contact, etc. If I want to just get my POP3 accounts (2 of them) pushed to my phone, can I do this by just going to the wireless sync site and entering the incoming and outgoing server information and not have anything running on my PC?

Some people have talked about a delay (20 minutes or more) for you to receive the email. Is this the case?

I am guessing that the email is sent via your data usage plan as well?

I already have a VZW Mail account with my phone, but having to manually send/receive in a pain.

I appreciate the help, and great site! I looked at about three others and signed up for this one because of the amount of people that really know what they are talking about here.

Here's how to set up your phone to automatically retrieve pop3.

    Messaging
    Menu
    Tools
    New Account

Just follow the prompts from here.

You select how often the phone automatically retrieves your email.

I set my phone up for 4 pop3 - no problems.

    Good Luck.

    Hi av8r77,

Here's a link to a whole thread discussing this: http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/...700w-4105.html

The short story is this...true push email won't be available for the 700w for a few months. I've seen a bunch of threads on this, and everyone has been debating on the actual release dates...the general consensus is that it won't be avaialbe until April at the earliest (many speculate it will be significantly later..so who knows). Now, that being said you have two options that mimic push email. 1) If you're set up with a Exchange 2003 SP2 or 2) using VZW's Wireless Sync client (check the booklet for setup instructions) and choose the push option. Basically, what these two do is send your phone an SMS message when a new email arrives that tells your phone it needs to sync up with the server. While this isn't 100% reliable since SMS messages can get lost, it's pretty close. If you're using either of these options, call VZW and ask them to add the PDA 2000 Allowance to your account. It's free, and it gives you an allowance of 2000 of these SMS messages (from what I've heard, these WON'T cover sending regular TXT messages). Here's some more info on that: http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/...2000+allowance

If having true push email isn't super important, you can have your exchange server just poll your POP3 account ever ____ minutes and set Active Sync on your phone to check for changes every ____ minutes. This is how I've got it set up at the moment, and I'm using Exchange hosting through http://4smartphone.net

As far as using 'Messaging' with a POP3 account, the short story is that the application definitely has its shortcomings. For example, if you've got 2 POP accounts set up on your phone, and you have them both set to 'check for mail every ___ minutes', only the account you last had open will look for new messages. So if you accidentally have your TXT messages open and don't switch back to your POP account, it won't poll for new emails....if you ask me, that's a pretty weak feature.

My (humble) opinion is to get Exchange server hosting (if you don't have it readily available through your company) and use it to sync up your Outlook and phone. Side note: Outlook doesn't have to be running 24/7 on your computer. It'll sync itself back up once you reconnect.

    Well, hope this helps some!

    Best,
    -Kevin

    Default Using IPAM

since our corporate pop email server is behind a firewall then goes to spam stops here. there was no way for wireless sync to get to it. I am forwarding my corporate email to my aol account (created a new scree name/email address). AOL uses IPAM I just set it up on the web wirelesssync.. eveything seems to workl fine.. no 15 minute delay. the longest I have seen has been maybe 10. I never set anythin on the phone and never found an option to set intervals to check for messages.

The emails come to the phone in outlook, when I reply the other party sees my corporate address not my aol. seems to work almost like the blackberry did.

After reading this I called tech support to ask about the SMS messages. I was told that that is not the case here and there would be no txt message charges what so ever.
Did this guy know what he was talking about?

Just got the phone on friday so we will see how things go.

    Thanks
