Default What is this on the Today Screen?

I just recently bought a Treo 700. (I am switching from a Dell Axim and cell phone.) What is this little bar at the bottom? I would like to either make it go away or add more icons to it. Are either of those possible? Thank you!

EDIT: thought of a second question... I have noticed that programs do not always close. I usually go into Settings -> System -> Memory -> Running Programs and close them. Is there an easier way to do this? Or is there a program that will show me all of the currently running programs? On my Axim I used Wisbar... but it was a memory hog and I do not want it on my Treo. Thanks again!

Hello jwoolz,

It looks as though you are running a Today screen plug-in or app. Is that correct? I have a feeling the icon you are seeing (for wireless sync to Verizon) is being displayed by that app as it is running. Other running programs may appear there as well.

On your second question, there are a few programs to fully close applications. I've just installed SPB Pocket Plus ($ but free demo) and it is really slick and not too big either. Others I've read posts about are Close All (free) and Battery Pack Pro ($ but free demo). If you search in the forums you should find more detailed posts on them.

Thanks for the reply kanu! To my knowledge there is not a Today screen app running that adds the icon at the bottom of the screen. I've looked through the settings for the Wireless Sync (the black and red icon) and cannot find anything that says to put an icon on the Today screen... I'll keep looking!

I will check out the programs you mentioned... thanks for the info!

I think what kanu was referring to is that you don't have the standard Today Screen. You've got some custom program that's giving you a special Today Screen. What is it?

Check the settings for that program, and they should tell you.

The easiest way to close programs is to hold down the 'OK' button (next to the hang up/power button on the rigth above the kepyad) and select 'Stop All' or you can selectively close down the apps you want closed and leave open the others.

This is a pretty cool utility modification of the Today screen. Looks like it has live weather updates?

I've been checking out SPB Pocket Plus which might be a bit overkill in my opinion.

Yes... I do have a Today Screen Plug-in. It is SBSH Pocket Breeze. I used the program all the time on my Axim. It is great! SBSH makes a program call Pocket Weather that does get weather updates. Either wirelessly or through ActiveSync. I highly recommend both products.

I still do not know what the bar is at the bottom of the screen. I know it is not either of the SBSH programs. I had both of them on my Axim. The bar was there before I had the Today Screen Plug-ins.

I attached a picture of Pocket Weather for you to see. Also... the Wireless Sync icon is gone from the bottom of the screen. I do not know where it went!

that bar is the VZW Wireless Sync application...I think if you hold the stylus over the icon, you'll get a menu to hide it...can't remember though, it's been a while since i've used that program ...as far as i know, there's no way to add more to that bar.

The icon at the bottom of the sreen is the wireless sync icon... You cant ad to it or remove it unless you uninstall the program.

actually if you're syncing with an exchange server, it goes away. wireless sync still appears in my programs list, but that bar isn't there.
