Yes you do need a subsription to XM radio. I've tried the service using the free 3 day XM radio trial. If I keep it, it would cost $7.95 a month through XM radio. It works relatively well and I only have 1X service, not full broadband. It runs at either 32kps or 64 kps. The user can choose the speed.

It does drop out at times and the XM program is too large for the screen and requires some scrolling. I've also had it freeze occasionaly but stopping it via memory seems to clear it. Obviously it uses the internet and not a satellite broadcast so you only have service where you have phone service.

In addition I may need to check my options since if I'm listening to the XM Radio callers go directly into my voicemail. I'd probably prefer to be bumped off the Internet when a call is coming in.

I've just finished going out for lunch and taking a 20 minute drive using the using XM Radio capability with the 700W. It is way cool. I connected the 700w to my car stereo via a casette adapter to the 700w's headphone jack. Even at 1X and using the 32kps transmission it sounded great.

I had a few minor issues with the screen size etc., and sent an email to the folks at eBookSoftware and they have been unbelievably responsive. That caught me by complete surprise. They made it worth the investment just to find good customer service.

PS: I reported the screen size problem to the folks at eBookSoftware this morning and within two hours they had a fix that I could download. Their product is way cool.

If you don't want to use XM radio, you can get the Pro version and it has about 20 non-pay radio stations that you can access. Some of these stations you could access on the 700w via Media player if you knew the URL.

At only $7.95 the XM piece is worth it though. That price allows you to also listen on your home computer. If you already have an XM subscription you don't have to pay any extra to listen on the Treo 700w. Gost but this product is fun.

This is excellent. I already have an XM subscription. I'm going to pick up Pocket XM Radio (now I just have to get it installed without a PC). Thanks for the find! Time to put that EVDO to work.

One added note, as you all may have found out with other internet applications on the 700w if you're using it, incoming calls go directly into voicemail. The good news is that the phone beeps and gives a message when you get new voicemails even if you're connected to the internet. That way you at least know someone is trying to get hold of you.

Also ebooksoftware did correct the screen size issue for me today. After the fix I noticed that they were still about 10 or 15 pixels to wide for the 700w. I let them know and they said they'd have a fix tomorrow.

Chris, unfortunately I'm not sure what you'll be able to do about loading the software without a windows machine. You must know someone who has a machine you could hijack for a few minutes every now and then for such things.

How do I go about getting and installing the screen size fix? I am using Pocket XM Radio Pro, purchased from www.pocketgear.com. It's great!

Just send an email to support@ebooksoftwarewarehouse.com. I've found them to be very responsive. They'll likely send you a link that you can use to download an update. They sent me a few interations yesterday and then one last one this morning and the size is now perfect. Their application fits on the screen with a 1 pixel margin on the left and a 5 pixel margin on the right. They are now going to resize their PocketStreamer application to the same size.

If you send them a note let them know that Mike McCall said their support was fantastic.

Sorry. There is a typo in the email address I sent a moment ago. It should be support@ebooksoftwarehouse.com. I got carried away and added an extra "ware" in the url.

Check out xstreamxm.com/mobile and http://www.minixm.com/.

xstreamxm allows you to select your channel when you login. Very cool. I selected the low connection and absolutely zero buffering issues.

Both are free by the way.
