I'm trying to set it so that when I select calendar from the Today screen it defaults to the full month view. While viewing the calendar, I go to MENU>VIEW and then select MONTH. It works for that session but when I exit and go back to the calendar it's always at the week view. Any suggestions?

When I go to my Calendar it stays in the same view that I closed the program in previously. You can also switch between views quicker/easier, IMHO, by hitting the view word in the bottom left and just tap it until you get to the view you want. Still, when I close the program it comes back to the same view from before even after turning the phone off and back on.
