welcome govind to ET Sorry you are having problems. What operating system are you using on your desktop or laptop. If you are using Vista then you have to use Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) not active sync. If you are using active sync your computer is not seeing your device. You can manually go in and set up a partnership in Active Sync. On the installation disk you will find the treo user guide. If yopur device is wm6 from the factory it will have the wm6 user guide if its windowns mobile 5 and has been upgraded to wm6 you will need to download the wm6 user guide from the palm website. If you set up a partnership but the computer is not recognizing it delete the partnership and then set up the partnership. The user name for your device must be the user name for the device on the computer.

    hi!!

Thanks for repling. i am using windowsXp on my laptop. I am from India. i bought the treo in feb. Its WM5 with installation cd of active sync 4.2. i tried doing it manually and even with version 4.5 but the device is just not recognised. The phone is very good, just has the features i want but not commonly used in India. even the charger which came with it is defective(replacement not available in shop), no car chargers available in India. Did i make a mistake buying it??? wat should i do???

Hmm... If you have access to another XP machine, load ActiveSync 4.5 on it and try again. That should help rule out a PC issue. If it still won't recognize it, then it could be the data cable OR the device.

It will work with the older data cables from previous devices (like the 650) but can sometimes appear differently to the PC.

On a separate note, if you'll be staying on WM5, load the audio patch from Palm or you may have sound issues. Personally, I recommend going to WM6.

The WM6 upgrade allows you to charge over the data cable as well. Then you can get a USB power adapter that plugs into your cigarette lighter and combine with your sync cable for a car charger.

(Note: You will need a regular working charger to perform the WM6 upgrade.)

sometimes you have to jiggle or move the conector and sometimes its slow to recognize the connection mke sure you are cosed out of all programs remember the x doesnt close programs just minimizes them low memory can cause issues laso I have found lately that sometime with alarms or alerts not responded to the device wont start synching without clearing the alerts or alarms.
