Default Activesync & other sync'ing problems

Hey guys.....

I have a 750 with which my problems with Activesync seem to be increasing. When I first received the phone (I got it off of eBay) there was a problem with sync'ing via the cable. When I would plug the phone into the PC (Vista Ultimate 64-bit) the PC would make the connection sounds (noises) but WMDC would never shot the device as being connected. I tried everything I could think of (no I didn't get another cable as the seller assured me he had used that usb cable successfully) Finally, out of the blue it did connect and I was able to name the phone and the PC sees it and all is good. As I feel Ican't trust the cable I then get the BT to connect and then I don't have to rely on the cable (good thing as the cable has never worked since)

BTW, the cable still does exactly the same thing when you attempt to connect, it makes the Vista connect sound but nothing happens, And yes, when you disconnect it also plays the Vista system disconnect sound.

So the other day I change keyboards and consequently have to plug the BT usb adapter into a different usb port. With the BT adapter in the new port all seems OK. Then I install "TimeTTracker" After installing the app I began to have problems with the BT Acticsync. I would initiate a sync and get an error message telling me it was unable to establish a connection due to the port being in use. I uninstalled and then re-installed the connection from both the PC and the 750 and that worked. The two would again do an active sync. Then tonight (for whatever reason) the 750 would not sync again (although the BT properties manager on the PC said the device was connected) I went through the process of deleteing the partnership on both devices and then re-discovering and.... you know the drill. Now no matter what I do or how I do it, the 750 will NOT show Active Sync as a service as part of the partnership process.

Finally, yes I did remove the TimeTTracker app from the 750 bu that has made no difference to the situation.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated and helpful.

Thx

Michael

You need to check in your BT services on the PC and make sure that there is a serial service mapped to a COM port. Then in WMDC, make sure that the BT COM port is enabled for ActiveSync connections.

Once the BT COM port is enabled and made available to WMDC, the Treo will see it as something it can connect to with ActiveSync.

There are a variety of reasons why the PC would drop the COM port. My Dell BT stack does it sometimes after I reboot my laptop. Chances are it happened when you unplugged the BT adapter.

Oh yeah, as for the cable, try it on a different machine. If it has no issues, then you may consider re-installing WMDC on your regular machine.

So, how does one do this? I went into Device Manager and found nothing/no way to do this, then went into Control Panel > Bluetooth Devices > Set up a Bluetooth Device which then opens the "Bluetooth Devices" box. The Devices Tab is default. The device is listed "MGWs_Treo" with a caption of "Passkey enabled" Clicking on it and then on Properties > Services. There are no services listed. The PC then searches for services, finds Active Sync (box checked) and I click OK. Then it takes me back to the Devices where the Device now says Connected. However that only lasts for a few seconds then the "Connected" vanishes. If I go back to "Properties" the Active Sync service is no longer there.

If I click on the Com Ports tab there is an option for Incoming or Outgoing with Incoming (I'm guessing) the one I want. However with Incoming there is no way to select a port.

In WMDC > Mobile Device Settings > Connection Settings there are several options/check boxes. I have the following checked:
 • Allow USB Connections
 • Allow connections to one of the following: > Bluetooth
 • This computer is connected to: > Automatic
 • Allow automatic device authentication
 • Allow data connections on device when connected to PC
So now I try to simply start over by removing from the PC (Bluetooth Devices > Devices > MGWs_Treo > Remove) and on the Treo (Bluetooth Settings > Devices >Optiplex_GX620 > Delete > Yes) and then do a reboot of both PC and Treo.

Now to re-set up the Active Sync connection, first on the PC, BT Devices > Options > Allow BT Devices to find this computer & Allow BT devices to connect to this computer & Alert me when a new BT device wants to connect & Show the BT icon in the Notification area, Then on the Treo, Bluetooth Settings > Add new Device. The Treo searches and finds the PC (Optiplex_GX620) and asks for a passcode, I enter a passcode following which the PC says a BT device is trying to connect. I enter the passcode on the PC which it then says is connected, however when you go into the Device Properties > Services there are none listed.

Now back on the Treo, it sits and thinks and finally pops up a dialogue box stating “Your device did not connect with Optiplex_GX620. The connection Failed or the passcode is incorrect.”

Now if I try to set up the connection from the PC to the Treo, pretty much the process is the same with the one (key?) difference being when the Active Sync services are added the PC then has a pop up that a device driver is being installed. However even with the driver installation being successful the Treo still will not connect.

I don't have a vista machine, so I can't walk you through that.

Also note that if you're using vendor specific drivers for your bluetooth adapter, you may have to configure the BT stack with their software. Some vendors install a completely separate BT stack with their software.
