Default After 6 months, my assessment : 750V = worst phone ever

After 6 months, I have to say that this 750V is absolutely the worst phone I have ever owned. While it has nice features and makes a decent PDA, I simply cannot live with the terrible level of reliability that it provides as a phone.

For the record, I currently have no additional applications installed on this phone and have done 2 hard resets since I've owned it. I commonly pick it up only to find that it crashed an hour ago (as the clock is frozen) or I have missed a call and the phone never rang. I find that it sometimes locks up when it hangs up from a call. Sometimes it rings but I cannot answer it - the talk button is somehow disabled and the phone rings and rings. Callers usually tell me that it takes 2-3 seconds after I answer before they hear my voice. I also find myself answering the phone with a few hellos before I get a response.

This forum seems to be littered with people either having terrible experiences with the 750s or no problems at all. I wonder if it gets back to different h/w or firmware revisions?

I am quite furious at this point as I paid a lot for this phone and it has consistently been absolutely unreliable. You shouldn't have to reset your mobile phone every day!!!!! Palm : Come on guys!!!!!!!

UPDATE:
I upgraded my 750V to WM6 via Vodaphone website about 4 weeks ago and every one of the issues that have been driving me nuts has been addressed. This has been a massive sigh of relief as I was about ready to ditch this phone. Highlights : I haven't had to reset my phone once in that 4 week period. It works properly and reliably as a phone now (no more "hello?" delays, no more ringing but cannot answer issues, etc). The alarm works. Many of the small feature gaps have been address (like not being able to SMS a contact to someone else).

I think the varied experiences in quality noted from different users in this thread may originate from the service provider's modifications to the WM5 and WM6 distributions. I purchased my phone from a small shop in Hong Kong and it carries the Vodaphone logo. Vodaphone offered a patch for WM5 a few months back that was corrected one audio issue but also introduced other problems. I didn't see any other mention of this patch from the other service providers.

If you are using WM5 on a Vodaphone 750V, I highly recommend the free upgrade to WM6 from Vodaphone's website. The URL can be found in another post on this forum.

wow I am sorry you are having problems. I have had my 750 from Cingular for 6 months and experienced very few problems other than minor annoyances. I have not added any programs except for a laridian bible reader and bible program and the dst update patches and installing the sprite backup. It sounds like you have gotten a bad phone and should have had your carrier furnish you a replacement a long time ago.

Agreed. My 750 (4 months old) has been extremely reliable. There are a few annoyances, as you say, but very minor. I would have sent that one back long ago!

You said it all. I was begining to believe these same issues were me and not the phone. Thank you.

Hi All,

I've been away from the forum for a while and don't know if this has been asked. But I would like to know exactly WHAT the differences between the 750 and 750V are. I'm preparing to purchase a new PDA and am quite unsure of which one to buy. I KNOW that I wish for it to be Windows Mobile. I have AT&T (Cingular) service provider. They offer the 750, but I don't think they offer the V version.

Could someone help?

Thanks so much for your help.

the V is the vodaphone version which is Europe and the 750 is ATT or unlocked general GSM/GPRS device.

I appreciate your input. With that said, it can't compare to the 700wx from Sprint/Verizon with their extra memory right?

I would take the Treo 750 over the Treo 700wx anyday. The only drawback for me would be AT&T's service vs Sprint/Verizon. I am with AT&T now and definitely preferred Sprint/Verizon.

I realize the OP had major issues with the Treo 750, but I enjoyed it when I conducted my review. Best keyboard I've used on any smartphone and excellent build quality overall.

I couldn't agree more. I too do the "reset daily" thing to make sure I get calls..

I think that you guys who are having problems have gotten some "bad apple" phones, no pun intended (well maybe only a little) I have, like I said above, had minor annoyances no major problems. I just updated to the unofficially official leaked rom wm6 patch. It took about 20 mins once it got going and I really like the new update so far. I have had no problems except for the keyguard sometimes takes several pushes on the center button to unlock. I may take the keygaurd off to alleviate that. I really like the 750. It could use more memory but with wm6 you can get larger expansion cards. I am going to be checking that option out as well as the 1600mah battery.
