Default Bluetooth w/ vista

I am considering ordering a new dell laptop. They only come with vista now. I've heard active sync doesn't work with vista???

Well, if I plan to use my 750 as a modem and to connected via internal bluetooth to the laptop...are there any problems I should now of? Will vista work here?

Thanks,
Matthew

Default Vista / Bluetooth Rocks

I have had Vista and my Treo syncing via Bluetooth from the first day, it works great. Only trouble i had was the initial setup where Windows Mobile Device center would not recognize my Treo for some reason. Being a wise Vista user I made sure that i had a restore point created before I tried to install WMDC. Had to run system restore 3 times before it recoginized my Treo, other than that make sure that both your comm ports match (com7). Other than those issues it works great syncs fine and i can even transfer my Mp3's to my card (though slower than USB).

Thanks for the response.

What about straight up bluetooth as a modem. I just want the dell to access the treo via bluetooth as a modem. I don't think I need active sync for that.

Should work fine once you pair the 2 devices. Have not tried it myself though....

That was my thought, and I don't think I will need to install activesync to do that.

Can I get in touch with you if I have problems with syncing if I go that route? I'd appreciate the help of one who's gone through it!

Ok, I'm in the process of setting up my 750 for wireless sync with my Dell Inspiron 1501 (base model from Dell), but having problems. Is there any available step-by-step instruction I can find to get me through the failures?

OK this i how I install the Treo on Vista step by step.

1. Make a restore point and/or backup of your system.
2. Install bluetooth drivers and setup bloothtooth.
3. Pair Treo and bluetooth together.
4. Take note of com port on your bluetooth device.
5. Plug in Treo via USB cable and let Vista find it. (If it dosen't go back to restore point you just created and keep trying till it does)
6. Once found should download Windows Mobile Device Center 6.
7. Go here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspxand download update
8. Install
9. Run with Treo connected via USB and sync
10. Under Mobile device settings - click on connection settings - make sure that allow connections to one of the following is ticked and that the com port matchs the one from your bluetooth setup.
11. Disconnect from USB and sync via Bluetooth...

Happy syncing

If you cannot change com port to that of your bluetooth setup edit the following in the registry :
Run Registry Editor (type regedit in Start Search and press Enter).
Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
In the right pane, locate the value name “SerialPort”. Modify the value data from the default value of “Bluetooth or “Infrared” to “COM4, where COM4 is the virtual COM port associated to your Bluetooth incoming COM port. If your PC uses different COM port number, then choose the right COM port as the value (e.g. COM5, COM6 etc).
Exit Registry Editor.

Let me know how it goes. I too bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 & want to connect through my Treo 750. My laptop does not have an internal bluetooth so I will have to find out what kind of extra I need to buy. Keep posting your progress. Thanks!
