I've had the exact same problem over this last weekend (callers not being able to hear me and me not being able to hear them). I had noticed a new icon had appeared on next to the Bluetooth icon, but didn't know why or how. After ringing Vodafone Personal and Business Support lines who were no help at all, albeit friendly, I tralled the Palm Support pages and found the answer. I'd set TTY/TTD in the phone settings to On. I've no idea what TTY/TTD is (the support page didn't tell me) but it needs to be Off. Since turning it off, the icon has disappeared, and callers can hear me and I can hear them! Hurrah! It would appear that owning a Treo 750V involves a steep learning curve .... watch this space for my next adventure!
I'm so glad I've sorted it - I was going to go into the Vodafone shop yesterday and throw it at back at them!
