Difference b/w unbranded WM6 update posted here and one offered by Palm
What are the differences between the unbranded WM6 upgrade posted on this forum by Trueluck3 and the unbranded upgrade offered on Palm's website? (here: https://ws.palm.com/SupportDownload/...nal/Home&sp=20 ) They both appear to be version 2.23.
Does anyone know if either one should work on an unlocked AT&T branded phone using a different carrier? (I am using Suncom). Any help is appreciated.
The version Trueluck posted IS the official unbranded copy, with a modified install wizard. He made no changes to the original ROM.
However, the original installer would only allow it to install on an Unbranded Treo. His modified installer will allow it to install on any Treo 750 (branded or not).
So, if you have a Branded Treo (Cingular, ATT, etc...) and want to run the Unbranded WM6, you'll need Trueluck's copy.
There are actually 3 versions which all came out of the official unbranded release.
1) ROM install from SD card (basically just ripped the file out of the installer package) Note: Does not update version number in about screen.
2) Install wizard - runs from a PC and installs on any Treo device. Also updates version number properly.
3) Install wizard for Cingular Treos - Correctly updates the version number which displays in the about sceen.
I believe when you install by SD, everything will install just fine but the version number in the about screen will not reflect the update.
When you install with the wizard from a PC, the final step after updating the device is to run a script to make the change to the version number in the about screen.
He made the second wizard specifically for Cingular to ensure that version number is updated on those devices as well.
BTW: All of this is in the first few pages of posts in that thread.
