Hey Trueluck, can I please get that SD file? I have the updated software, but I need the file to trick it into thinking it is unbranded. I am on Rogers in Canada, and just was also wondering if you had heard of any issues arising from it? If you could please let me know and send the file to, theliftedresearchgroup@hotmail.com, it would be greaty appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone here using the "official" ATT WM6 update has been able to tether using ICS since this and the lack of unwanted bloat are the main reasons for using the unbranded version. I am currently using the "official" ATT WM6 update and although I have read forum posts ranging from "ICS is locked on the official wm6 update" to "ICS will at some point be locked by ATT" I am able to set up my ATT Treo 750 to tether with my laptop (running Vista Ultimate) via bluetooth or USB cable with ICS (I do have the basic unlimited internet access plan, as a matter of fact ATT rep told me I would need an additional tethering plan, but I do not have one and still can tether). I am all for losing the bloatware but am really interested in hearing about anyone's tethering experiences.

    Thanks for reading!

Willmnstr, so far everyone I've seen who is running the ATT version is able to tether. Palm's site says it requires a tether plan on the WM6 download page for ATT. ATT's site says it requires a tether plan.

Only thing I can guess it that either ATT simply isn't enforcing it, or whatever mechanism is supposed to enforce it is broke. Either way, I wouldn't expect it to work forever as they obviously didn't intend it to.

    Default update method?

So I pulled this file and made it ready to go for a miniSD card install.

The install is perfect, all version numbers indicate a proper install and there are no whack programs on it.

PLEASE READ THE "More Info" SECTION FOR SOME IMPORTANT FACTS AND HELP

    FW Version: 1.54.00.00
    From Rev Version: 2.23

    You get:
    - Office Mobile (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
    - PDF Viewer
    - Voice Command v1.6
    - Games (2)
    - Windows Live
    - Messenger
    - Remote Desktop Client
    - Internet Sharing
    - HSDPA (and it's definitely working correctly)

...and all the other nice Exchange and email type enhancements we've been told.

Post your email if you want it or if you have questions.

P.S. If you like, gimme' some love (thanks)

    =================================
    Remember:

    1. This update is working great for me, but that may not be the case for everyone.
    2. As I stated in the post, this is the actual NBH file from Palm's unbranded WM6 update. All I did was rename it to the correct file name for the miniSD card. I didn't modify the binary at all, it's exactly as Palm distributed it for the unbranded, only now you use the built in boot loader to update, not the USB cable and setup wizard (which is a real pain in the ass)
    3. Please post any questions you have, as I will assistance everyone to the best of my ability.

    Now...Enjoy the update you deserve!

    Instructions:

    1. Grab your miniSD card (yeah, you need one of those now, at least 100MB will do)
    2. Format it using your PC to FAT32 with default allocation (this is how I did it, I've read about people using the handheld and various software, so....)
    3. Copy the NBG file to the card (once its' formatted you can copy using your PC, inserting the card and using infrared or Bluetooth, the USB cable, etc.)
    - Remember to copy the file to the root directory of the card, and I think it has to be the only file on the card (in my experience)
    4. With the card inserted into the Treo, push the reset pin while holding the side / PTT button (under the volume control)
    5. Continue holding the side / PTT button until the screen displays the prompt to start the update
    6. Press the (red) power button to start the update

The update will complete and the phone will initialize and go through the familiar startup prompts.
Hi, I have read nothing but great things about you and what you have done to help people with their treo's! I need to upgrade my AT&T treo 750. I now have os5.1.195. Which is the best and easiest way to upgrade? Direct from my pc running win xp or sd card and can you send me the one you think is best? (n5zex@comcast.net) If I use the sd card method, does the info stay on the card ( I can store it and have it available if I need It). I also need instructions to perform this upgrade ( it makes it so much simpler). Thanks very much! Fred

Hi Fastlerner, I agree, Trueluck3 has disapeared. Can you send me the Unbranded link for the sd card? (n5zex@comcast.net) I have a AT&T treo 750 running os5.1.195. I also wondered which method is the simplest the download from a pc running xp or the sd card? Also if you use the sd card does the info stay on the card (I can store it away for future use) Please send me whatever method you can. Thanks again! Fred

The SD method is super easy. Copy to the SD card and follow the instructions posted here. It takes a while to load (at least on mine), but when it's done, it works perfectly. i've been running it for several months with no problems.

You just don't get the correct version number with the SD method even though it is updated. If you use the PC method, you get the correct;y displayed version number.

No reason to keep it on the card with you. I just keep a copy on my PC in case I ever need to reinstall the WM6. If you ever need to rerun the installation, it's gonna wipe your phone and you wouldn't have any data except for a basic WM6 installation.
