Informative Got the new unbranded ROM ready for AT&T miniSD

I got the unbranded WM6 for the Treo 750 AT&T (or the unbranded for that matter). I pulled it from the real Palm WM6 update for the unbranded 750. My issue was that it uses a web based wizard, in which you have to mod an .xml file while running the installer (in order to trick the app into thinking yours is unbranded), and in the end, it didn't work (at least not completely). So I pulled this file and made it ready to go for a miniSD card install.

The install is perfect, all version numbers indicate a proper install and there are no whack programs on it.

PLEASE READ THE "More Info" SECTION FOR SOME IMPORTANT FACTS AND HELP

FW Version: 1.54.00.00
From Rev Version: 2.23

You get:
- Office Mobile (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
- PDF Viewer
- Voice Command v1.6
- Games (2)
- Windows Live
- Messenger
- Remote Desktop Client
- Internet Sharing
- HSDPA (and it's definitely working correctly)

...and all the other nice Exchange and email type enhancements we've been told.

Post your email if you want it or if you have questions.

P.S. If you like, gimme' some love (thanks)

More Help
=================================
Remember:

1. This update is working great for me, but that may not be the case for everyone.
2. As I stated in the post, this is the actual NBH file from Palm's unbranded WM6 update. All I did was rename it to the correct file name for the miniSD card. I didn't modify the binary at all, it's exactly as Palm distributed it for the unbranded, only now you use the built in boot loader to update, not the USB cable and setup wizard (which is a real pain in the ass)
3. Please post any questions you have, as I will assistance everyone to the best of my ability.

Now...Enjoy the update you deserve!

Instructions:

1. Grab your miniSD card (yeah, you need one of those now, at least 100MB will do)
2. Format it using your PC to FAT32 with default allocation (this is how I did it, I've read about people using the handheld and various software, so....)
3. Copy the NBG file to the card (once its' formatted you can copy using your PC, inserting the card and using infrared or Bluetooth, the USB cable, etc.)
- Remember to copy the file to the root directory of the card, and I think it has to be the only file on the card (in my experience)
4. With the card inserted into the Treo, push the reset pin while holding the side / PTT button (under the volume control)
5. Continue holding the side / PTT button until the screen displays the prompt to start the update
6. Press the (red) power button to start the update

The update will complete and the phone will initialize and go through the familiar startup prompts.

Smile Yes!

Worked for me!

The only thing I find odd is that the software version is TREO750-1.13-CNG.
What does this mean?

All the other numbers are right and it's a higher revision than the leaked version I was previously using. No bloat ware. No ATT logos. Just a clean working phone.

Unless I hear otherwise, I don't plan on installing the "Official" ATT WM6 when (if?) it is ever released.

For me, I noticed better performance with the Windows Live Software. I just wish they would have installed an "All-In-One" style messenger.

Yeah,
I'm not sure why, throughout all my updates I've never seen the "software" version change from TREO750-1.13-ATT. Being that I've only done bootloader updates it may be something that gets changed at the end by the setup wizard using the USB connection. I also thought it may be relative to the production date, not so much like a lot number, but more like a model number, like some people see "TREO750-1.13-CNG" and some see "TREO750-1.13-ATT." But I'm purely guessing at this point, I really haven’t taking the time to research the particulars.

As far as everything else stated in the last reply, my sentiments exactly. I'm really not sure that I'll upgrade to the final AT&T release. I love the speed of this version. The most I may do is install the AT&T release, check the software version (which may stay the same), and put the unbranded FW back on. We'll see, that may not be for weeks and weeks now.

So if anyone has any questions please just make a post and I (and I'm sure the rest of the community) will do my best to support you. I was thinking about when people try to install the AT&T release after installing this version, they may receive an alert from the setup wizard saying that they don't need the update because they already have it. If that's the case I'll post simple instructions on how to make the install think you do need the update.

Have fun!

Well guys, it may be a little early, but still no update on Palm.com or AT&T's site. But that's old news...

For those of you who received the link from me but have not yet downloaded, give me about 30 min. to an hour and it'll be back up...

UPDATE:
Okay you guys let me know what you think and I'll do whatever everyone wants.

So I was thinking about what some of the guys were saying about all the version numbers except the software version had been updated (even though it felt like the SW version had been updated). So I'm using a Vista machine with Mobile Device Manager and couldn’t get the setup wizard for the unbranded Treo to work. Today, now that I'm back at the office, I said “…let me use my special IT powers and boot someone off their XP machine for a little while.” So I took the unbranded setup wizard (which I now have as a CD style setup, not a single executable), placed it onto a flash drive, went to the, now available, XP machine and ran the update wizard...vuala, I now see TREO-2.23-ATT for my software version.

So, my feeling is that if you got an XP machine, email me for the Setup Wizard, otherwise just ask for the ROM image.

But it's up to the people, should I just send all requests a zip file of the setup wizard? I moded the setup wizard files (not the update itself, remember I DO NOT change the ROM image binaries) so that it will install even if you've already applied the image I've been giving out.

If you’ll be using XP:
- Make sure you have the latest version of ActiveSync installed (4.5)
- Once you’ve done that, go ahead and attach your Treo to the USB port on your PC so that you get all the drivers installed
- After Windows gets the drivers installed, reboot into the bootloader with the USB attached so that Windows installs the bootloader drivers
- This will help give you a smooth installation so that the update wizard doesn’t timeout waiting for drivers to install during the individual update steps
- Make sure use the same USB port throughout the entire process (Windows tends to install new drivers for the same device when you use a different USB port, it’s best just to keep the cable connected for all of this)
- Just in case, remove any miniSD you may have inserted

Now just run the update by double clicking the "INDEX.HTA" file located in the root of the setup wizard folder.

The build number for the leaked rom is the same as the build number for a friend who has one of the corporate wm6 devices which just hit the market. So it seems that all of palm and att's excuses for not releasing the official rom are a crock!

So does this mean I am missing out on anything when I installed the ROM with TREO-1.13-ATT? If I am I would prefer to get the latests and greatest.

From what I can tell (without doing extensive research), no. When I got the setup wizard to work the phone seemed to do the update exactly like the bootloader, but this time, after the bootloader finished, the setup wizard ran one last program that took 5 - 10 seconds, and that's what I think makes the final version change, but I have no problem sending you a link for the setup wizard zip file, just send me your email again asking for the wizard file. It'll install right over the 1.54 FW version you've put on already.
