Hello! and some questions for you experts here. New to Treo with big troubles.

Hi everyone.

1. How do you edit your contacts without installing outlook on your pc. I really would rather edit them on the pc but really hate office apps. If there is a way, I would love to know it.

2. I keep getting "autorun.exe" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with trusted certicicate or one of its components cannot be found. you might need to reinstall or restore this file" message.

3. unable to install wm6 upgrade rom. 2 issues, I only have the sync cable that also occupy the power plug but phone does not recognize it a it has power. So I can not do install from pc. And the 2 GB card that is formated to fat32, with the rom in it will start the install and than complain that it is not fat32 after the first dialog box.

Background. Newly aquired treo 750 with unknown use prior. it still have the "wm5" (in about window, os version 5.1.195 build 14959.2.3.2.

So far phone funtion is working fine. Speaker is also pretty good. Sending SMS is ok but local contacts needs to have them dialing 10 digits or it will not send (pain!!).

Outlook is the only app I know of to use on the PC side.

Where are you getting an autorun error and what are you doing to trigger it?

Sync cable should not be an issue. I know it says you need power, but you should be able to get through it if your battery is topped off before you begin.

1. thanks for the outlook question. still need to know if anyone else knows of how to do this without outlook.

2. autorun error comes up every time I remove and reinstall the battery. Or soft reset. This could be from some errant programs that was installed from former owner. I'm thinking that it will go away if and when I succeed in installing wm6.

3. Actually, I tried installing it (WM6) from pc (it actually gave me an error on the desktop saying it needs powercord plugged in and it aborts.)

with windows mobile you are going to need outlook. If you are plugged in with a usb plug try a different port. If you are yusing a usb hub unplug something so you can use direct to computer usb. If you are on a desktop and yusing the front usb ports unplug and use the back usb ports on your computer. Plms are real finicky about power and sometimes are problematic in that area otherwise.

I may be ignorant about the whole WM thing and syncing with pc.

But seems to me at least you should be able to pull out your phone numbers and edit them the way you want with them. Back them up, save it or reload it to your new or old phone! should be elementary.

So I retry to load wm6 with a different type of mini sd card (it is also 2 gb formated to fat32 with hp flash format utility.) copy over the files and dannnnM!! still does the same thing. it asked for UCLA or something and I pressed ok and it gave me an error saying it was not fat32!!........

My butt seems to hurt for about 5 mins......:angry::angry:
Considering all the hoops you have to read and check thru to download it and now I can't seem to get it to install!! Can someone beet MS and hardware manufactures over the head with some thing heavy?

Even if you don't use Outlook, you can still back up your device. You just won't be able to edit the addresses on your PC. I would recommend getting a copy of Outlook though. It gives your device something to sync with for contacts, schedules, tasks, etc...

Hmm... Instead of using the hp flash utility, try formatting with windows. Just right click on the SD card from windows explorer and format it from there as FAT 32. Also, make sure that CHEEIMG.nbh is the ONLY file on the card before you attempt the upgrade.

Newuser, where did you get your upgrade files? Are you using the unbranded version from here?

The palm installer can't be run from the SD until you extract the ROM file and put ONLY the ROM file on the SD card.

Just wanted to be clear since you mentioned you copied the install files (plural) and there should only be 1 image file.

yes you can get a stand alone copy of outlook on ebay for about $30.00

Newuser, where did you get your upgrade files? Are you using the unbranded version from here?

I got the file from palm site and followed their directions from there.

I have office that I can use. But I'm trying not to use MS bloatware on my pc. Thanks for the advice.

I will update once I have tried the steps from fastlerner's other post. Does anyone know where I can get the unbranded/non plam version of the rom? If so please send link to vshu at hotmail.
Oh and one more thing is one of the rom will make the phone unlocked? Is that true? I'm still trying to read thru so much information and havn't found the answer yet. still reading.

And one thing that is clear is you would want a unbranded version of the rom. All other versions had some things that you don't want like bloatware and such. So, I will be requesting a link for that rom in that thread and following the step by step directions from there. Wish me luck and I will report as soon as I have tried it.
