Default How Do I Regain Lost Audio on a Treo 750v?

I lost incoming call audio after I started playing mp3 music files with Windows Media Player on my Treo 750v. The Palm Support website says that it is because of too many applications utilizing the audio driver. In certain situations when the user activates too many applications that need to share the device audio driver, system sounds and notification sounds can become muted. These applications can include the device Notes Recorder, the Vibrate Motor, Voice Command, Windows Media Player, and/or the camera/video recorder. An audio alert update is available on the Palm website, but only for AT&T versions of the Treo 750, none for Vodafone. I upgraded from Windows Mobile 5 to WM6 in the hope of solving my problem, to no avail. I have tried hard and soft resets, even reinstalled WM6, but still no audio, even with only 1 application running. I can't go back to WM5. Does anyone know what next to do?

There is a patch for the 750V for the audio on WM5 on the EU side of the Palm website.

However, since you upgraded to WM6, that's a moot point. WM6 includes the audio patch.

Is all audio dead, or just the loudspeaker? Does it work with headphones? If you're getting playback on headphones, but not on the loudspeaker, then it may be a hardware issue related to the speaker.

Thank you for your response.

The speakerphone works (the one at the back of the Treo), and I get playback and can hear incoming calls on the headphones. However, without headphones and without turning on the speakerphone I couldn't hear the caller although he could hear me. This appears to be a common problem with the 750 from what I read in the posts.

I have this sinking feeling that I exchanged my trusty 650 for a severely handicapped machine.

Okay, it sounds like you're saying your earpeice speaker is dead. Though I've not had this issue myself, I've seen it go by in the forums a few times.

The contacts with the earpeice speaker are (from what I remember) a couple of metal tabs. They can become loose over time or after a hard jolt (like being dropped.) The simple fix in that scenario is to open up the device and put a little more bend in the tabs to make contact.

If the speaker is truly toast, then you can replace with one from a 680 which you should be able to find online.
